There was a house being built on a property 9 miles from my house and they cleared a large amount of trees. All I had to do was buck and load the wood. I could park my truck almost next to the piles. I grabbed a truck load full on Thursday and Friday after work, picked up my dog and then unloaded at home. Then brought the trailer out on Saturday morning. I only filled the trailer up halfway, the heat was getting to me. Also I had worked through the closer piles and had to either carry or throw the bucked wood then load. The dump bed is awesome. Not having to throw all of the wood out of the trailer removes one step entirely. I live on a hill and previously had trouble with the rounds rolling down hill and into the woods. My solution was to pound T posts into the ground and bungee an old gate to the posts to create a stop. It is highly effective and I had all the matirels laying around. I have moved it as needed. The wood mostly tulip poplar but also cherry, persimmon, maple and a small amount of ash. I know people have mixed feelings about poplar but it was free and has its place in the wood pile. There was still a monstrous amount of wood on the ground but I am at least three years ahead and I am whooped. If it was entirely oak and ash it would be an entirely different story.
Great scenario! I had a friend build on a lot about 2-3 miles from me a while back. Gave me all the wood in exchange for the help clearing his lot. I sure would love a dumper like that!
I would be much better served with some help. I asked a few of the younger guys at work but they were not interested.
It seems next to impossible to get young people to do manual labor these days, especially outdoors in the heat or cold.
My ol' Buddy across the road always said when he was trying to get some more help on the farm that those kids today just wanna play that Nintendo stuff.
When I lived in central Ohio my neighbor used to allow hunters to hunt geese on his property, in exchange for stacking hay in the field on a wagon and into the loft. Pretty smart guy. I however have yet to find or harness such a carrot.
For some reason I get to deal with the summer students every year and this is what I get to look at most of the time. Mind you its just 3 college guys this summer.
My wife appreciates me supplying us with a large supply of dry wood to heat our house. However this is how I imagine she sees me.
Nice score, yep, it's hard to find help these days. Luckily, my wife helps me now that she doesn't work in retail anymore. Nice dump trailer also, looks like a 7x12 maybe. Sure comes in handy.
