We are at my parents place for dinner tonight and just was out wandering the yard when I noticed some hovering bugs near one of the ash trees. Figured I should move in to investigate and sure enough!!! Of course I had to kill a few, they are all over it! I’ve been cutting EAB wood for a while and had yet to see anything of them except the tunnels and grub for of them. Here’s two I grabbed with a chip off the ones wing.We were just talking at dinner about taking the tree down this fall since it and 4 others in the yard a dead or barely alive. There’s one tree that Dad had injected that’s still going strong though. I know everyone’s tired of hearing about these darn things, but I’ve never seen a live one and didn’t know how many people had. Figured I’d share....
This one was doing some poking around with its butt end, I’m guessing looking to lay some eggs? When an ogre fist came out of nowhere!!!!
I have a big White pine on the edge of our yard. Sapsuckers hammered it pretty good over the years. Last year I noticed it dying back, by fall you could hear the pine borers chewing away under the bark. Tree is completely dead now and can still hear a few chewing once in awhile. It sure is alarming to see the damage the EAB has done.
EAB would be a very pretty insect if they weren't so dang destructive. Unfortunately with all of the damage they do I have to think they are ugly little buggers. I'm with Chaz...go team ogre!
I thought they were smaller. How did you see this? Was it just moving around on the outside of the bark? I gave my ash tree a dose of the Bayers stuff this spring. So far, so good.

I noticed while swimming for the first time at the Aunts pool... that her big Ash tree only has half the leaves as it did in the past years... will probably be having some Ash in my future...
I just walked over close to the tree and noticed a couple bugs hovering and looked a little closer when they landed.
Good post J. Dirt. I had posted a picture of one but that's probably been a couple years ago. Your area looks a lot like our area looked a few years ago. It is sad for sure.
