Ah, but there are not that many times during the winter when it is miserable. For sure there are exceptions, but we don't live by exceptions. Over all, the north is a great place to live. The cool weather begins much earlier and the hot weather starts and ends much later for the start and much earlier for the end. Yes, we have to shove some snow around occasionally but again, that is only a few times each winter. Some more than others and some winters more than others. One thing that always gets me is you hear all the time from people who live in desert areas and they claim the sky is never as blue as in the desert. Hum. I've been in desert and I've been in the north. The sky is never as blue and as clean looking as in the north, especially after a cold front moves in. The air is much cleaner and you can see further. I could go on and on, but will spare you... I love the north country and I love some of the south; both have their plusses and minuses. Blessed is the man who can be happy where he is.

Looks like I got everyone all riled up...not my intention! Full disclosure...grew up west of Detroit, then moved to New Hampshire (Laconia-about as far north as the U.P.) and have seen 3 feet of snow at Thanksgiving and have endured -28F with no wind chill...then moved to Tucson and played golf at +113F (I know, it's a dry heat, but so is my oven!)...all in all I enjoy the South the most...much rather be too hot than too cold.

Ehh.. don't think you got everyone riled up, the heat did that. :)

As the conversation showed, people prefer different climates.

I have a co-worker who loves the heat, and hates winter. I keep telling him, "You do realize that there's many states that have weather more to your liking."

I usually remind him of that whenever he says that he hopes it gets into the 90's.

Can't say that plowing snow is my favorite pastime, but I'd rather be outside plowing on a reasonable winter day than hiding in the house with the AC on.

Southerners get a chuckle when we grumble about the heat, and we get a chuckle when it seems like a state of emergency over 1/2" of snow. ;)

Other than bitterly cold days, my biggest wintertime complaint would be cleaning the car off (nearly) every day before and after work.

I have found that I appreciate Spring more up here, when we go from white and/or brown to green again.

I also will never give up the Fall foliage scenery.

I will likely always grumble when it's in the 80's, and b##ch when it's in the 90's.
After all, this is the North.
