Thank you, and you're welcome. 4hrs north still makes it HOT in my book. I knew some great people while I was in GA.
Do those have a center support? If so, I don't think I'd fret over additional supports.. They typically hold a bunch of weight in their intended use, don't they? Are you thinking 2x4 stringers on top?Disclaimer: I'm an armchair plastic pallet advisor - never used one myself.
No, sir, I was thinking about 1/2 " plywood with holes drilled in it for air circulation. We have 4x4 sheets of plywood and OSB that are thrown away.
Ok, I thought I had a wood ID thread kicking about. Question on this one. Oak? White? Or way off base. Bark is to the right of the round. Split.. Ironically, a I was typing this post, my co-worker who does landscaping called and asked if I was interested in some white oak. I said sure, grabbed the saw and off I went. Well, I'm not certain about the previous wood, but know for sure that it wasn't oak I hoarded. Silver Maple maybe?? My first scrounge. Hopefully a worthwhile one. Either way, it's farwood, right? Thanks for the insights all. It's now beer o'clock.
Ok, confusion time again. So the first two pics are Red Oak. Cool. Now, the leaves came off the scrounge wood. Red Maple, or Poplar??
In the woods at the moment, but yep. Small sucker branches still on some logs. Only one small tree that rotted and fell, so reasonably sure that all the wood is from the same tree. Will post up more pics in a bit.
The wood is aspen poplar, but that should have had a “spade” shaped leaf. That leaf in your pic must have come from a different tree. Those are 2 of my most common species here. Poplar is a decent shoulder wood; dries really fast but it can soak it right back up if it gets rained on.
Shawn Curry Google shows quite similar leaves on White Poplar, which is closely related to Aspen Poplar.
They're not native around here, but it may have been planted as an ornamental given the neighborhood.
Here’s mine... their plenty strong for wood... just my weight seems to make them break sometimes.... depending on where I step...
Chvymn99 I would like to get some plastic pallets, as they won't rot. Not that the sun gets to hit them much, but what are your thoughts as to the plastic becoming brittle due to exposure?
Brittle eventually... yes... but being black it’s got more UV stabilizer in it from the carbon black... Mine are about 4 years old...
