well I pulled the trigger on a MS 261C to back up my Dolmar. It’s not happy right now and my saw guy is backlogged with work. Us hoarders gotta cut anyway
That’s a nice saw. Love mine. I doubt it will end up being your “back up” for very long. That’s going to be your “go to”.
Last night was the first night I fired it up. First impressions of the saw was that it was very light. I’ll put on on the scale when my Dolmar is back from being fixed but I think it will be 1-2 pounds lighter. I really like the way the the chain is slowed down when you take your hand off the throttle. They did a great job with reducing vibrations I didnt seem to have any hand fatigue after using it for an hour straight. So far I like the computer controlled carb from cold start it fires up after a couple of pulls warmed up starts on the first pull. Not real impressed with the anti kick back chain that came with it so that will need to be addressed soon. I must say I am quite pleased with it right out of the box
The 261 is a sweet chainsaw! Just like Shawn said, you will probably be reaching for it more often than not.
Umm Backwoods Savage can give some opinions on this saw.. I think.. Great thread gmule . Not sure it's a Sawyer saw though might be wrong area..
My other saw is Dolmar 5105 both saws are running 18” bars. The Dolmar is faster to spool up throttle wise and it cuts fast the Stihl is a good pound lighter doesn’t run quite as fast but cuts plenty fast as well. When my Dolmar comes back from the shop I will be able to give better comparison between the 2. Don’t get me wrong I’m not dissing my Dolmar by any means that saw is a workhorse no doubt about it. I am just glad I was able to get another saw that is probably just as good as what I have to work with while it is being repaired. I bought the Dolmar brand new 4 years ago and have cut around 25 cords of firewood with it and it just needs a little love I noticed she was miss fireing at high RPM and wasn’t singing that song she normally sang at full throttle this is the first time it ever gave me any concern during that time. I bought the Stihl because my saw guy is back logged at least a month with work due to all the forest fires and this is prime tree cutting season so I figured another saw was in order.
One sweet saw for sure. I still haven't gotten mine broke in. It won't be run much in this weather for sure. I'll wait for the cool or cold weather to start cutting again. Besides, I still have a bunch of splitting and stacking to do. 1
I am fortunate for the summer weather where I live is mild we hit an afternoon high of around 72 for a couple of hours in the later part of the day wake up to the mid 40’s
Congratulations gmule. I just picked up the same saw last week. I only have about 1 tank through it but it is enjoyable to run. I have an 16in bar on mine.
