I was respliting some larger splits this morning and I am curious what type this is?
It has a nice aroma to it and it almost purplish in color.
    Thanks

Might need to retake that pic with a flash to show the color and cut the glare off of the glass table.

Black walnut is close to cherry on the BTU chart... throws good, quick heat....not big on long lasting coals, and more ashy than 60% of all firewood choices.
That said, we’ve burned a lot of it in shoulder and early cold part of the season....mixes well with the big hittin’ hardwoods.
But yeah, that bark isn’t right.

Yep.... walnut ... good smell on splits... but yea I consider it good at shoulder season burning... or mixing it with some harder wood...

I’d be happy to agree with BW when we get a better lit pic of the split, but also to find out the deep furrows of the bark typical of BW were knocked off somehow.

Like the others say, it's not a high heat wood. 20 mbtu's a cord, so it's a mid grade fuel, but it really does ash a lot.

I mix it in with other stuff, because it starts quickly.

The bark doesn't look right to me, but the wood says Walnut.

Thanks guys, I only have about 6 splits of it. This was mixed in with the 2 face cords I had delivered last year.
It's as light as a feather and I remember adding a couple of these to get my fire place started quickly.
I'll take a couple of more pics as well.
