Somewhere along the line I heard ethanol was part of the CRP program to assist corn farmers (late 70's-early 80's ) ?
Not the same thing, but this reminded me of it, I just found out we have a Stihl rep coming in July to do a 2 hour chainsaw training class for some of the guys at work...I signed up, might be interesting...
I used to say that too. Till I had my chainsaw come to a screeching halt...Saw sat with gas in it for 6-8 months (or more.) I dumped the fuel and refilled and same problem. My jug of fuel had gone bad also. Been using AVgas since
I kinda was "that guy" at a Stihl demo day at my dealer here 3 years ago. I've known this rep for years, really good stand up guy too. Asked if he wanted to race his MS 660 against my old 064. Beat him by 1.6 seconds in front of about 60 people. He was good natured about it. I cheated & he knew it. I had a 9pin rim & a moderately modified chain on my saw. With 2 out of the box chains I ran about a half second faster. Had lots of questions about my old antique 064 after that little outing. That's still my favorite saw to run.
He should know that the 660 isn’t exactly a HP monster out of the box either. Although I suspect it would take more than a tenth or two of HP to outgun a really good chain!
Yep, he knew lol. We had a good time, & like I said Rick's a really good guy, does right by his customers. It was a really good chain too.
Yep, but most of the people there were not saw geeks. Some of them were literally younger than my saw, all they new was the 660 was Stihl's "big" saw. Even the rep expected the 660 to win. My 064 is a stock powerhead, no porting or mods. Just good old fashioned power from a non restricted saw & sharp chain. Like I said, it was no big deal, but sure was fun. They won't race saws at the demo any more.
I thought this was to preserve sensitive (steep or wetland) ground and for tall grass habitat. Steep ground tends to cause more runoff of silt into streams, rivers, and in our area, the Chesapeake bay
