Morning everyone! First time poster and working on my second second burn season. I installed a 17-vl last fall and we have never been warmer Anyway, I scrounged this up this weekend but don't know what it is... It has a loud smell but can't relate it to anything. Thanks for the help guys! Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
Welcome to FHC crisputer You'll find lots of help and information here. My guess is some maple variety, but I'm still terrible at determining wood type by look. I tend to need to see the entire tree. Not to worry, the others will correctly ID that for you.
Welcome to FHC! Can’t identify it besides Farwood.... I’m guessing no leaves to be attached? ... pretty decent bark on it ought to help someone...
Welcome crisputer You cited the smell as “loud”....can you ascribe that to anything else? Like pizz or puke “loud?” Minty or lemony “loud?” It’s not oak, but that is one of the best “loud” smells there is regarding sniffing one’s wood....
Green apple wood can smell like bad vinegar. But the bark doesn't look like apple. That orange oxidation on the split end is bugging me.
May have found a leaf but not positive it's even from this tree. Sweetgum? Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
That does look like a sweet gum leaf. Hopefully it’s not that. It’s known for being some of the most difficult splitting wood there is.
Looks almost like red/slippery elm.............save for the leaf. But you're not 100% sure on that. The red/slippery elm I have in my stacks split quite easily by hand with my Fiskars.
Since last week and after alot of rain, it's now turning black with mold. Still stinks too. The Cherry on the right didn't change at all but whatever that is on the left??? Maybe this new information and pics will help. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
