Thinking I am going to be needing one to trim the Hickory limbs hanging over the new drive way. Gas or electric? Electric would be no problem just load the genset in the trailer and go. How long a pole, Limbs I am considering cutting are abot 10' up. OH did I mention it is hickory needing trimmed? Al
I have a gas Echo unit with several attachments including a pole saw and an extension. It works well, but it gets heavy pretty quick. I would think an electric one would be lighter. Even a lb or 2 can make a big difference especially when you’re reaching which you will.
I bought a battery powered weed wacker a couple years ago. I love it. I think that would be the way to go with a pole saw since it won’t be run on a regular basis. No gas/oil to mess with, no carb cleaning or maintenance in general. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Or buy echo or stihl combi split shafts.. Attachments are 15 to 20 a day to rent here!! I am not storing a 350 dollar paddle broom all year for 3 hours of use in spring
I've got the stihl kombi system myself. I have the line trimmer, blower, articulating hedge trimmer, pole saw, and extension. The pole saw is straight up nasty. It's not even funny how quickly you can make a brush pile from limbs.
Got same thing in the 130r, crazy power for string no blower or hedge trimmer yet Got pole saw ... Your right Brush blade... Kills 3 inch maples My favorite. Cultivator a little tiller attachment... Fixes tire ruts fast and easy!!
I think we get $45-50/day out of an Echo pole saw? I'd love to have one but can't justify for amount of use.
Why I went split shaft.. Think weedwacker that break in half.. Stihl attachment to buy new 130ish. Lots cheaper to rent attachment then whole unit.. Just looked up new price 209
I have the 130 as well. The line trimmer will blow apart fences and fence poles in a heartbeat. You have to be careful. But I've never had it bog down in grass. I think I'm going to buy the edger next. I've been doing raided garden beds so the cultivator moved down the list. The original poster can get an electric Remington pole saw for 99 on Amazon. It will do the job for the most part. I had one that I bought at a yard sale before I bought the stihl unit. I cut a lot of limbs with that thing You can even take the saw off the end and use it by itself. It's very light.
If you get the kombi and one attachment it's a very expensive unit. However each attachment you add brings the cost down since you aren't buying a new motor every time. I really like that you only have to keep track of one power head to keep gas in. I can't recommend these units enough if you are a diy lawn guy. The power and quality of these units are top notch.
I bought a Worx JawSaw a few years back...that works pretty good...I only paid ~$50 on the fleabay (shipped) for a NOS unit...looks like prices are up a bit from that now. Don't use it very often, so an inexpensive electric unit like this was the way to go for me. JawSaw: The Safer Chainsaw (5 Amp) - WG307 | WORX EDIT: I see that they don't include the pole with it anymore, optional now, mine came with it
Thank you for all the comments. While some made good points on a gas pole saw not being used much and gas going bad, for me it doesn't apply. I use a chain saw, weed string trimmer, Leaf blower or some thing mix gas powered just about every day so no big deal. Buy some thing with a bunch of attachments I will never use and have no need for just isn't making sence to me. Still in the air on electric, plug in to a power source or battery. Have just about decided on a Kobalt 40 volt 8 inch model. Includes battery for 169.00. But I am a vet so they give me a 10% discount and they have them in stock at the near by store. Al
Plug in. Invariably, the battery will need to be charged when you want to use it, I have a Portland pole saw, plug in. Not a sexy name but gets the job done.
Wife says my Polan 2150 has a trigger lock. I have many hickory saplings to choose from and a couple rolls od duct tape Vola a gas pole saw. Al
I have a ryobi 40v split shaft that I have a pole saw attachment for and one extension. It works great and lasts for a decent amount of time. I have no problem cutting bitter nut hickory branches, some I have to cut from two sides as the bar isn't long enough. I have had the overload breaker trip a couple times but I probably shouldn't have been cutting that big of stuff either. Wait a couple seconds it resets and keep on cutting. Mine is 4yrs old and never let me down.
I have a Ryobi 40V Pole saw with 2 extensions, works good, but it is very top heavy and blows thru bar oil.
It is a tad top heavy. I don't use oil in mine it leaked all the time so I quit using it. Surprisingly I still have the original bar and chain on it.
We've got a Stihl Kombi. That thing cuts surprisingly well, way better than I was expecting. Just grunts right through in no time. Just got a trimmer attachment for it, going to say goodbye to the old FS36 that wrecks my hands with bad vibes every time I use it. Really would like the hedge trimmer attachment too, almost have myself convinced. Almost.
Totally ridiculous the amount they charge for those Kombi attachments. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
