I was telling him for years to do it. Took him at least 10 years to listen.

My neighbor is a mechanic for a bakery. They switched to gas engines in all the bread trucks because they are cheaper to operate. The county is changing to gas engines in school buses as they buy new ones.

My buddy wrenches for UPS, he said they switched back to gas on many of the delivery trucks some years back already...I notice it seems like FedEx has done this too. Matter of a fact I don't recall seeing a newer diesel "delivery truck" of any kind for quite some time now...Oh, and our Cintas driver said his truck is Ford V10 powered too.
I guess the Dodge V10 is long gone, eh?

I want to find an old Toyota 4x4 5 speed and drop a Kubota V2203DI in it with a custom turbo setup. Supposedly you can get 40mpg. It would never pay for itself but it would be cool.

I've seen a few 4BT Rangers running around...kinda cool, but that is a heavy engine!

I'd like to do a 4bt swap in something else. It is too heavy for a compact truck. I saw a 4bt ranger at the drag strip on a diesel day.

I had a 5.0 Bronco II for years...thought about a diesel swap in it...then later on decided to do a 4.0 V6 in it, had ideas of a supercharger on it...bought a donor Explorer for the drivetrain...then lost interest and sold everything...stupid 16YO neighbor kid rolled the BII 2 weeks later...said he swerved to miss a dog...but nobody else saw a dog. His dad fixed it, played with it for a few years, then sold it...have completely lost track of the ole girl now :(

7000 lbs is the max tow with the 2.7. that's more than enough for most folks. But yes, super long term reliability, I get it. That's why I'm getting the 5.0.

That's also why I got the 4.2 V8 in the Audi vs the atanstan twin turbo 2.7 v6 in the allroad. Well, that and the v6 was a timing belt motor and the V8 is a chain. Well, turbo tech has come a long way since then.

Horkn, family has driven Saabs had turbo since 80s. I never replaced one. Last 2 went over 300k. I figured it was why GM bought them, motor get 225 HP out of 4cyl, averages 30 mpg and lasts quarter million miles..

Do not know if they kept turbo technology or sold it..

GM-Likely down graded it so you spend more time & money in the service department.
For comparison 16 Escape 2.5 eco 3500 max tow -last week full load about 9 mpg at 70 mph couple hills down shifted to 3 a little over 5000 rpm.
F250 04 6.0 diesel apx 9000 # load same trip (50 miles) and speed 15mpg never went over 3000 rpm ( and that was with a failing hpop and some leaking fuel rail o-rings) Mild temps about 70 deg. neither were out of normal operating range temp wise. At that speed and load the Escape was bit on the edge- the 250 it wasn't even a concern. Note the 6.0 has been repaired so we will see what numbers come up a bit later on as I have 3 or 4 more loads like that to do. both units are 4wd
Start stop city driving Gasser is going to win over diesel every time- long haul no contest Diesel will win. Just a matter of using the right tool for job at hand. Additionally 15 years of Plowing snow F350 V10- better choice for job than the diesel which at that time would have been the 7.3 other than the exhaust manifold bolts, replacing rusted out egr assembly and plugs and coils the V10 was never opened up, course with 473 rear end it sure wasn't any mileage master but could grunt any load as well as the diesel around town. I think the 04 and 06( 5.4l) f250's got mad at me for selling the 99 v10 as both did the upchuck thing shortly after selling it. 06 tranny lines rotted out, 04 hpop ( egr deleted on this unit.) I have 100 mile daily commute hence the Escape ( F150 priced a little too dearly for my pocket book even used)

I'm curious why you like the V10 better than the diesel for plowing?

Plowing sxxt load of start, stop, short runs and at that particular buying time diesel was over $4.00/gal gas was a $1.00 cheaper - Maint. on diesel twice that of gas, Mpg was about the same for that type of work. Not to mention the $6000 up charge for the diesel 7.3 vs v10. Previous truck to the F350 v10 was a F350 6.9- plumb wore that one out body and frame wise, 1 tranny rebuild, that one had a habit of blowing out the $80.00 relay for the glow plugs ( common problem). That 6.9 other than the relay deal and oil pans rotting out ( common problem on all of the big 3 trucks) never opened it in some 300000+ miles. 9ft Fischer plow on it - under hood hydraulics unfortunately Fischer stop supporting that particular hydro set up( electric over hydro) no parts available any more. No EPA fingers in that engine very little in the way of electronic gizmos.

Curious why you wouldn't stick with the legendary Toyota D-4D that is offered stock in that truck everywhere but here? The 1kd turbo diesel was introduced in 2001, had the same torque as the v6 gasser at half the rpm, and generally has a 500k miles rebuild interval.

When I considered the same project years ago, it was more desirable to just buy the front clip from Japan or another country and do the swap yourself because of the 25k cost of most good kits. This route keeps things basically stock and much easier to work on.

Do you have to buy parts from other countries as well since our aftermarket wouldnt need to support them? Yes i know there all made in china anyway.

It's my understanding that most of the stuff crosses over. There may be some small odds and ends you'd have to source, but the whole point of buying the truck front clip (truck from the front doors forward) is most everything is there.

I guess i was getting at, is that motor used here at all? So would you be able to buy say a water pump for it, or a valve cover or oil pan gasket (yes i know you can make these)or oil pump, timing set, glow plugs, If you were to need them?
