Saturday was more of the same, only this time we headed over to a local pond with a nice beach for swimming. My kayaks became diving platforms On the way home I lost one off the trailer, had a friend from church text me that he had seen it and thought it was mine, but before he could turn around and grab it someone else got it.
Lucky for me, the guy who grabbed it was me! Monday we did a family trip to Cape Ann, visiting Gloucester and Rockport, MA. Back when you had to have your film developed into pictures or slides , Kodak kept track of the most popular area for pictures, this fishing shack in Rockport harbor was the most photographed scene in the US, earning the title, "motif #1". Sailboats entering the harbor after a race on the ocean.
Beautiful pictures Rowerwet Looks like you had loads of fun with the family and made some precious memories
Memorial day evening I drove out to Elmira, NY for work. After I finished on Tuesday I had to stop by the air museum there. My uncle served in the Navy during Vietnam, he worked on the flight deck of a carrier, moving aircraft, back when the F-4 was our top fighter plane.
Since I worked Monday and it was my turn to cover Saturday as well, I took a day off in the middle of the week. Finally got back to the big maple score, and did some real damage to the pile of downed tree. This was the first time he could use those stairs since last year. Got another load cut and split in the morning before it got too hot. Then spent the afternoon going on a family paddling trip. Saturday evening after work I surprised my wife with tickets to Boston Symphony Hall to see the Boston Pop's annual Gospel music night. As part of the concert , they have a choir made up of local church choirs. After the encore, the Pop's orchestra got up and left, but the local choirs had their own organ, guitarist and drummer. They went on to perform a few more songs on their own.
I've shared this link before in other threads, Sawfish, an Unsinkable, Lightweight, Foam Kayak (23 Lbs). Free DIY Kayak Plans, the Hardware Store Boat it's the link to my foam kayak design. I just totaled up the boats that have been built using it over the weekend, and found that I have 49 boats that I know of, including 8 I've built. There are also another ten plus of my first foam kayak design that I know of, and a bunch more that have been inspired by my idea, but don't follow it very closely. You can take a look at them all here (sorry Facebook is being stupid , search for Rowerwet Facebook , and look in the wall of foam fame album)
That's my neck of the woods. I am only about 15-20 miles south of campus. I hope central PA treated you well.
Can't complain , I even got to watch the state College fire department do fire training while I was working on my employers aircraft. I love the area, went to bible college and met my wife there. She grew up in Mifflinburg.
A bit dark, but I was unloading in the dark. My sister tipped me off that one of her friends was giving away firewood, she and I were band geeks together in high school, so she was happy to give it to me. She cust, split and stacked it while unemployed last year, now she has a job, but is moving close to her work. This is the first load, with the trailer stacked as full as I dared to, I have another to get
Monday, took down this apple tree at a house I got a bunch of wood from after the blizzard Up against the house, so I had to be creative Success Worked out to a full load
Then back to my friends house for the rest of the free wood Another good trailer load Time to build a few more racks for stacking quick!
Yeah I was glad it wasn't any deeper, and I avoided it all, double plus! Can't believe it, but I heard a chipper and saws down the street, and I'm not interested. .. Hope this doesn't get me booted. ..
My oldest daughter has been taking art lessons since November, this was her father's day present. It's oil on canvas, done from a photograph. She hasn't ever been in a dory that I know of, but this means even more to me because not only did she paint it, but I spent many years rowing dories of all types, including getting the opportunity to race traditional solid wood dories just like this one at Mystic Seaport in Connecticut , and Gloucester, MA. There are details in the boat she captured, that she doesn't understand the function, but she got them correctly. I love it! Monday evening, after a nice paddling trip on the river, a storm came through, and now I have another downed tree to clean up!
Rowerwet Funny you should mention Mystic Seaport. About 25 years ago I was in Southick MA for work and we had a day to do some sightseeing. We took in the old whaleling village there. That was a beautiful place and nicely kept up.
Family vacation camping trip, we spent the last week in June camping in Brewster, MA on Cape cod. Had nice weather, not too hot like the week of the 4th was. It was the kids first time on Cape cod. The camper is an oversized teardrop trailer that I built, it weighs very little because it is made of foam, just like the kayaks. The campground has it's own pond, the kids explored it for turtles We took them to all three sides of the cape so they could see the difference in the ocean and beaches. Their favorite was when we paddled down the bass river to the beach, they did all the normal beach stuff, and enjoyed climbing out on the breakwater to watch the boats for a while . I snuk up on them in my kayak and they didn’t know I was there until I spoke to them. Nausett Head lighthouse, the one everyone knows even if you have never been to it. It's the lighthouse on the cape cod potato chips logo. Chatham lighthouse and coastguard station, my great aunt was stationed here for WWII. She joined the coast Guard and became part of the only group of women to fully staff and operate any US base entirely by women. They operated the SHORAN (early LORAN) equipment for ships, and maintained the diesel generators, lighthouse, trucks, coal boilers etc. They also ran on the beach each morning, practiced combat and firing drills, and reported on the Uboats they spotted near the shore. The greatest rescue in coast Guard history also was launched from this station.
