One of my teenage boys decided to quit his job before having a job lined up. Luckily I think I can keep him busy. Saturday is going to be a fun day. I should have 2 loads in the dump trailer without cutting the main trunk. I’ll let him load the four wheeler wagon and run it up the hill to the dump trailer. I’m going to tackle the trunk and see how it goes. This is the 046 with a 24 in bar.
Then he will find a job even faster I hated firewood as a kid too.. Once he is paying heat he will love it!!
Gosh I actually loved the prospect of firewood but the actual part of getting firewood dry was unbeknownst to me. I mean I was 16 delivering wood to my aunt to use that winter. I take her situations to hand because I KNOW she wasn’t burning the best ready wood but it was what she had. I come off on this subject recurring but looking back, that’s what taught me. I’m surprised she didn’t have a chimney fire....but my assumptions here aren’t doing favors. Just speculation. The idea behind this? I just split wood and stacked it, appreciated the hard work out of it. 17 years later I’m listening to you all who have preached about the rules of thumb. I actually worry for her and want to give her wood that has been drying out well around here!
Nice job on wood and parenting there, gentlemen. My oldest daughter is a hard worker, but doesn't like stacking too much. She's going to like it once school gets out if she plans on using her phone.
My plans of getting the Red Oak didn’t work out. We had a major rain storm on Friday night and the horse pasture was pure mud. I had both boys in the morning and one boy all day so we hauled 2.5 trailer loads of wood to the shed and stacked it. Tomorrow my son will clean up all the pallets and debris where the wood was stacked. I am half a stack short of 7 cords in the shed. I finally feel like we had a productive day. Afterwards I showered and talked with my wife before she left for work. Once she left I went to the same friends house with the Red Oak in the field. He cut some Ash from his dads place and it was piled up in his yard. He doesn’t burn wood but needed it moved so he gave it to me. I’ll go to his house tomorrow and help fling bales of hay for his horses.
Well I'll be darned You aren't alone. I stacked and unloaded almost 300 squares last week at a buddies place. I get almost unlimited access to wood there. And he calls his horses "lookin at horses" Big expensive pets! They would be at a glue factory if not for his better half.
I still need to finish the last row. The shed is 12x12x6. Six feet is the lowest point. Now that the shed is filled I’ll go back to hoarding for 3-4 years down the road.
Wow, that's a big square block of firewood. About 7 cords worth. In one neat square taking up minimal room compared to my own big long rows. Hmmm.
My firewood starts out in long rows. Once seasoned it goes in the shed for winter. Someday I would like to cut, split and put it in a big shed till burn time. I need to reduce my firewood steps
