First picture cedar or maple, second picture white oak, third picture red oak. How did I do?

From what I can see you have Oak, white pine and oak.

Look at the ends like on your State Park wood thread. If you see the rays it is almost certainly oak. The cut ends sometimes offer the best clues.

If #2 is white pine the growth rings should be pretty far apart.

Agree with Paul bunion .. the first pic looks like it’s been sitting for a bit so the sapwood is starting to get punky. It’ll burn just fine when seasoned....

I agree with 1 and 3 but how do you confuse white pine with oak.. My guess on 2 was a maple.
weight and smell and pitch usually define pines..

It doesn’t smell like pine and no sap. Can it still be white pine?

Yeah, the pine sap dries up pretty quick actually. A fresh tree I'll let the rounds sit for a month or two for the sap to dry up before handling them again. Easy to do on your own property and you can ignore them for a bit. Usually you'll smell at least a little bit of pine with a fresh split. But if the tree was down for a year it won't have much smell left at all.
Sure looks like EWP to me. Dead standing can dry out pretty quick too.
+1 with red oak, eastern white pine, red oak.

I agree with Red Oak, Pine, Red Oak. You'd know for sure about # 2 being Pine if you picked it up. It would be very light weight being that dry.

Post a pic of the end grain... that’ll help clear up the pine vs maple debate.... looking closer at it, I could go either way at this point... the bark is what has me convinced that it is pine.... pieces without knots are far less dense and have less sap... also, I would think that a piece of maple would present some clearly defined heart wood..

Check the difference in the growth rings. When you see them wide apart, for sure they are not oak! Softer wood for sure; hence, pine.

Could you cut through the knot? damm it.... looking at this pic of the split, I’m now leaning maple... best way to solve this is to send it to me. I’ll burn it next winter and let you know what it is when I see how much it heats my house!!!!! Standing by for the fresh cut pic... also, letting us know where you found said wood might help...

There’s also the Hong Kong Phooey test... saw some one inch boards out of it. If you can chop it with a karate chop, it’s pine... if it breaks your hand, it’s hardwood... either way, post pics..

I'm leaning more towards maple vs pine with additional pics. It's not looking like red maple, maybe norway maple.
Got enough to stack it separate to burn it sooner ?
