Heh, well between the "weeds", chipped paint, disorganized woodstacks, and other miscellaneous fines they'd impose on me.. might as well just lock me up and throw away the key. :hair:

They'd fine me more than I paid for this place. :bug:

And I would gladly inform them that they'd have a better chance of making a snowman in summer than they'd have of me giving them a single penny.

Doraville is a freaking dump. DeKalb County is notorious for corruption and mismanagement in their local governments. Instead of chasing after homeowners for petty things like driveway cracks they should look at the big ticket obvious items like trash in the street, and nasty panhandlers at the freeway exits. But then again, that’s not where the money is, is it? Yet another reason I chose to leave the metro Atlanta area. Too crowded, and too many people up in everyone’s business. “Farm Livin’ Is The Life For Me!” :)

In cases like this there could be no end to the nit picking they could do to fine you. Crazy...

And around here we've fought the stupid idea of "Code police" in townships. Perhaps there are reasons but to actually hire someone to go around making sure people are "up to code" on all things is stupid. If they are harming a neighbor, then I have a problem with it but I do have a problem with people who complain that they have to look at something they don't like every time they drive by. Stop looking if it bothers you!

I get it to some degree. The guy that owns the property around me on 3 sides has acres and acres of old rusty farm equipment just parked all over haphazardly...because of it I couldn't sell my place for a decent price if I had too, but I also believe a man has a right to do with his property as he wishes... within reason. At this point all I can do is plant more trees (for the view)...and outlive him.

Well said. We all know the original intent of code enforcement, especially in highly populated metro areas: enforce code to keep a decent standard of living for the area. Abandoned houses that are falling apart with yards that have 6/8 foot tall weeds, vacant lots that have turned into illegal trash dumps and absentee owners that won’t clean them up, housing all kinds of mice/rats/snakes/mosquitoes, etc. When I was a police officer, we had problems in winter with bums and drug addicts breaking into abandoned houses and lighting fires for warmth....and subsequently lighting the house on fire too- In these cases, having a code is a good thing for everyone.
But when cities decide that using code as a means of revenue generation, and then funding the prosecutors and code judges with the fines collected from the “infractions,” that gets scary as hell.

They would never try that crap around here, there would be a revolution. Some times I have stacks of 30 or more pallets in my dooryard as well as loads of logs, especially in the winter when I can't get them down back till the snow melts. Thank God NH is the " Live Free or Die" state. :picard:Heck, almost half the folks around here have wood in their yard, and some fools never stack it. They just leave it in a big pile on the ground.
