Well... Looks like I'm the first to comment on the Chambersburg event.

I got there later than I planned and ended up having to leave early. Got a call from home that a tree came down on the horse run-in. Had to attend to that before it fell all the way to the ground and hit one of the equines.

But while I was there, I took a few videos of the chainsaw mills in action. Here are a couple of them.

I must have missed you Joe. I wasn't able to get there till close to 2. A lot of new faces!
Took very few pics. That dual ported 661 set up milled the large elm stick super quick. It was impressive. Having milled a ton myself, I can only imagine getting logs done that quick. Uploading vids shortly.

It was great seeing old friends again. Thanks to the hosts, Quality Tree Farm and Rodney for organizing.

    I cut out around 4.

No doubt. A lot of folks there I hadn't met; most of them actually. :)

How often did they have to stop and resharpen the chains?

Those are some hefty logs and boards.:jaw:

I'd guess they touch up after each slab...but that's just a guess, IDK for sure. I'm sure it depends on the wood and if there is anything hiding in it waiting to take your chain out.
Maybe Shawn Curry could give us a better idea about what's "normal"...

They must have cut 4 or 5 slabs with that dual head set up and did not touch the chain once! I felt the cutters when they were done because I was amazed at how well it was still cutting. The chain felt like it was still new, I chit you not. It was full comp, full chisel square ground Oregon 404.

I've milled a ton and it all depends on the size and species. That large log was elm (they said red elm) which I've never cut.

Yeah. It was actually an easy one. Undercut it a couple times and it rolled right off. The only damage was a tiny dent on the edge of the tin roof that is barely noticeable . It was mostly the brush that hit. I was surprised the top didn't snap right off where it caught the roof. There was much holding it.

Sorry. No pics. :emb: It was hot and humid and I just wanted to get it taken care of.
