What type of wood?

    The bark looks like cherry to me but not sure.

    It looks like a variety of pine, but what variety I do not know. Maybe eastern white?

    Looks like pine by the grain and rings. Cherry would be a little more reddish, maybe pink.

    +1 on the pine.
    Maybe spruce or fir but looks more like EWP or maybe even hemlock .
    Looks like it could have been a yard tree that someone pruned the bottom branches off flush with the trunk at some point not too long ago as they are only partially healed over.

    I keep separate stacks of pine as I find it useful and usually burn it purposefully.

    Split that round and it was a pain, it was very stringy. Is that normal for pine?

    I can be on a knotty piece or big crotch.
    Usually smells like 2x4 sawdust.

    When I cut the 60-70 year old colorado blue spruce down in front of the house that's what splits looked like. It was a bear to split too.

    I've yet to come into contact with any of the "easy splitting" pine.
