Nearly done! All the hardware cloth in, just need to bury some of it. The motion sensor worked like it should've last night around 1:15 a.m. along with the motion lights. We had a humongous black bear investigating the coop up close. I yelled at him through the bathroom window and it walked away. He'll be back- this time he'll meet rubber buck shot to the azz!

Chickens loving life, hopefully eggs in mid July. This breed is an earlier than normal layer, and will continue to lay through the winter.

    It's beautiful!

The fortress rocks are not only that...
but are a really nice accent.

….now....about living off the chickens in the neighbor's yard....

    whereabouts are you.....exactly?

Looks great Brian. I may have a few questions myself about raising some.

Do you happen to notice if they are helping reduce ticks in the yard?

We haven't picked up any ticks in the yard, so maybe. They have been eating the black flies and whatever bug they see. Guinea hens are big tick eaters, but any chicken should.

Smart girls they are. They can free range but are choosing to relax in their run- the sound of ravens or crows I suppose.

Thinking of goats next year. We need to clear brush all over- goats will do it for us.

We had a bob cat investigating the coop around 4:15 this morning. These predators are no match for the motion sensors!

You've mentioned the motion sensor. How are you determining the time and critter? Game camera?

I'll bring mine for the gtg. Maybe capture something lurking about, and not on two legs.

The fox that was lurking in the woods about 7:50 this evening will likely get a chicken dinner. They are extremely smart, will learn schedules and wait until the perfect time. I caught him first. When birds fly out of the woods, this is a tell tale sign something is lurking. He better watch it!
