Getting water from here to there?

    Ideas to get semi pressurized water from an old well to the garden. Needs to come up 3 ft out of the well, then down the hill only 20ft. No power or air. Siphon?

    What about a ram pump? No power or air required and easy to build out of pvc.

    Ram pumps arent generally used for wells and technically they wont work however a draw pipe maybe 15 or 20 ft down I would think that would be plenty to power one.

    All you need to do is pull a siphon on the line for 10 seconds. Or roll the hose up and submerge it in the well so it fills with water and then block off the downhill end and drag the end down o the garden. No siphon required that way

    How low will the water in the well drop once you start taking it out? If not much, why not just drill a hole in the side and stick hose in it?

    Are you saying that the garden is 20' from the well? Or there is a 20' drop in elevation? If there is a 20' drop in elevation that is a no brainer siphon candidate. As huskihl said, you can submerge the hose to fill it, or use a bucket to fill it, then you and a helper hold a thumb over the ends until you are ready to start the siphon, then let go of the lower end once the upper is submerged...

    drill a hole and hydroment a spigot in.......................turn it on and off.

    There is always the solar water pump option too...if you google around a bit there are tons of options out there...everything from cheap little fountain pumps clear up to deep well commercial irrigation pumps

    These are all great ideas. I'll likely siphon for now, but eventually want a hand pump that I can hook a hose up to.

    Siphon will work like a champ. About half a PSI per foot of drop from the pools surface, minus friction loss.

    Here's a decent video. I may do something like this, then hook it up to a hose. Wondering if there would be enough pressure for a sprinkler??

    yup winner! You could do that for almost nothing! Pvc is cheap and fast to work with. Imagine the pressure that would put to a garden hose. Pretty slick.

    I've got plenty of pvc here which is nice. I need to pickup a couple ends, a tee, and a hose adapter. Ill post pics tomorrow when I finish it! :thumbs:
