Only 1st Gen tundra I've ever really liked were regular cabs.....

I too like the 90s tacos and t100s, but sadly eir worst fault was the quality of the metal and they're really getting to be unicorns in the northeast......

I honestly really like the newer Toyotas too. Taco and tundra.

 

Toyota other issue still to this day or at least even a few model years ago was their fuel economy, it was and is terrible people overlook it for their reliability and that they hold value. This is for trucks. The cars have great economy.

 

Yeah, I've heard that a lot too. Mind you I'd rather pay for a little extra gas than a tow truck or even frequent non-debilitating repairs, but they do hold value well. I've wondered about possibly getting one when my ford kicks the bucket, but I don't know about the prices.

 

I have 2 Yota SUV's . my wife drives an 04 Sequoia and I drive her old one an 01 Highlander as my daily driver. In their classes they are on the low side if not the bottom in the case of the Sequoia.

The Sequoia is basically the same thing as the Tundra just has an SUV body and not a truck cab. The driver seats and dash and consoles are the same, engine suspension, drivetrain and everything else is shared.

The first gen Highlander is basically a thrown togeather crossover style SUV that was made for that emerging market in 01. That was the first year. It shares a drivetrain with the camry, and some interior parts with the sienna mini van. The engine and tranny are directly out of the camry...tranny probaly regeared. I'm sure suspension is reworked for the vehicle too. Later model years saw a newer engine developed for them...the 3.3L v6 instead of the 3.0 thats in mine .

 

Thanks for the info, I never have done much research on the highlander, or had the interest to I guess. I do kinda like the sequoia, but they don't seem terribly popular here. I don't mind admitting I actually kinda like the 1st Gen sienna, I'm the type that'd drive an old minivan for a beater, though I haven't as yet haha. Take out the back seat, plenty of room for wood, recycling, trash, whatever else.

I've been honestly impressed with Toyota over the past several years, especially over the last 5 years or so. They've really upped their game on quality, be it interior, steel quality, and unique design. Even in cars. I'm not sure if the trucks are any easier on gas with the newest ones though.

The new titan catches my interest as well, not that I'll be able to afford one anytime soon. I notice a lot of visual similarities to ford trucks on closer inspection, but I do like the look of them.

 

I just got a new to me '09 Toyo taco drives and rides smooth. Love this truck will get pic's soon! Wife loves it too!

 

The new generation Tundra is a little better than the old one, but many say the 5.7 is worse than the 4.7 on fuel but I think it's cause there punching it.

Yea ford ripped off the Tundra on their tailgate design!!

In 08 the second gen Highlander came out and it's larger and total redesign. There were several versions of the first gen, basically engine and interior and some exhaust issues were the difference.

So my brother-in-law called me today and asked if I still wanted any totes.... so I said yes. He told me to bring the trailer over to his work(local farm supplier). And this is what I brought home-16 totes with the wooden pallet bottom. I just have to remove all the bladders and dispose of them- they have not been rinsed out, one even has 4-5 gallons of 2-4D left in it Now to get them all unloaded.

Good score. But I wouldn't throw away the bladders. Instead wash them out and use them for top covers.

I would use them like that, but I use them for goat shelters. My neighbor wants 10 for her herd, and my wife wants 2 more for our herd.

Really have to watch the frames on the T’s. Mine was deteriorating so I sent it on down the road. Really like that truck. My son and I kid about getting one and sas-ing it and making a wheeler. I’d love to.

 

Toyota is still replacing frames under a warranty deal. I do not know anymore than that.

 

The 99-06 (07) GM 1500s definitely should have been recalled for the frames too. All steel is gonna rust when not cared for, but those might be the 2nd place for premature rot after the notorious yotas. Both the body and frame on those trucks is obviously a lousy quality of steel. Even the HDs, although the frames don't rust the same (nor do other HD trucks compared to half tons and small trucks in my experience), they do often Crack in the front when plowed with (admittedly that issue is present all the way from 1988-2010). Too bad, they were a decent truck otherwise. The 07-13s don't look near as good IMO, but they do seem to hold up a lot better.

The 97-03 (04) fords have the last few feet of frame riveted on in the rear, and those sections seem to be a poor quality metal too. My 02 was always cared for like a sick kitten till we got her at age 13, the front section of the frame is almost like new to this day, but not even 3 years later the rear section is getting questionable with one section on the bottom being beyond questionable. Too bad, the box is still half decent for the age and the cab is still almost like new. There's also a gremlin going on with the drive train,so it's about time to just drive the truck till she's no longer safe to use. Considering the difference in how fast the 2 sections seem to rust, I believe they should have been recalled too.

My 89 f-150 wood hauler with a 4.9l inline six motor and Borg Warner 4 speed manual transmission. The truck blew a head gasket this winter and I almost sold it to a co-worker for next to nothing.

I decided to have the head pressure tested and milled down and install all new gaskets in the motor instead. No regrets, the truck runs great and I use it weekly to haul wood. Between the truck and the wood splitter I am now three years ahead.

Interesting that by 89 they weren't using cross flow heads ford Australia introduced the cross flow in 76 for their inline 6 cylinder engines, and fuel injected overhead cam in 88.

But a 4.9l six must have some torque, would pull like a train I bet.
