You bring up something to think about. Some hoarders store wood for more than 3 years. Probably, to the average Joe, that's crazy. After all, they're told that 6-8 months is more than enough drying time by many of the commercial firewood ops. If they're out of wood, your pile's gonna look real good. And, if you've got lots of it… looks even better. I can see, in some populated areas, this could be a real pain in the arse. You may be right… good idea while deciding where to stack, to have it out of sight a bit… if possible.

Right where I want to be.
Exact same thing with my brother this year. He thinks I'm "anal" about the firewood, and yet he's the one looking for wood.
Hmmmm. He made sure to buy cruise tickets, but not firewood. Hmmmm.
Slow learner, indeed. Almost had him on the path to hoarder heaven, but he backslid....bigtime.

Look around and find a place that sells firewood. Direct him there, and keep doing it. Let him know you are not a wood dealer. Maybe next summer, give him a reminder to be prepared. And yes, keep it out of view. Not safe anymore. Wood thieves are everywhere now.

I can relate....I have a couple fellows at church that no matter how much you try to convince them they just will not work to get ahead. One of them really was in a bad way after some surgery and I understood that so myself and another guy cut all the wood he needed for winter 2 years ago. Last year I hauled enough to him again and we've told him to get busy now that he is in better shape....nope he's almost out for this year and not one stitch cut for next year. The other one I have offered for him to come out with me and cut to get ahead.....no he bought 20 bundles of fresh cut oak slabs and then tried to tell me how well they burnt....BS.

you did your part when he was down and out. But now that he is not, it is his turn to take care of himself, and also to get going on helping someone else out.

Hmmm, seems to me I've heard this story before. Something about 3 pigs and a wolf?
I certainly cannot say that I am fully prepared for anything, but I sure try and am willing to take advice from others. I have a hard time with people that not only wont do anything about their own well being, but laugh at you when you do.
They are the same people that laugh at you for wearing PPE.

Advice is always free, good or bad, some people just think they know best regardless.

Could you imagine if we ever had a serious problem(s) in this country that shut down our financial institutions, water or power grids?

I'm not a doomsayer, but I believe in trying to be self reliant as much as possible.

Don't feel bad, you take care of your family first. My neighbor ask me if I would cut his wood for him, I had to tell him no, I actually told him no last fall after I did him a favor on his wood supply for this winter we just went through.

If he is capable of getting his own firewood supply then, he is the Jerk For begging you, Instead of just doing what he needs to do to supply his self for his Heating needs.

A long time ago I Got an old beat up riding lawn mower for free fixed it up good enough to mow the grass, it buned oil and caught on fire once(Fixed fuel line).
The neighbors started whining about how hard they had it because they had to push mow their yard and they kept hinting Around like I should mow their lawn or let them borrow the mower.
The thing was on its last legs already and I didn't know how long it would last for just me. It Kept the mosquitoes down some though. :D
They acted like I had it made in the shade because I had that old beat up smoking lawn mower and I should share the wealth
They had three capable family members to do the mowing also
I told them just do what I did find you a cheap or free riding mower and fix it and you won't have to push mow anymore

It isn't doomsaying. We got a good taste of it when Sandy took out much of the electrical distribution system and the gasoline/diesel delivery systems in this area. It was a mess.
