    37°, light wind, & sunshine
13 hours of Sun now :)
Around mid 30s to 40° days, low 20°s at night.
Sun, wind & dry weather is weather checking the outside edges .
Still some snow on the North shaded sides.

Paradise Dave… nice! Oh yeah, the mountains look good too… ;)

The forum mods should consider using your pic of the ends of your very dry wood, as an example of what ACTUAL dry firewood should look like… so newbees could compare it to the "seasoned" firewood they just had delivered. (And, maybe they already have) Got a feeling it would open a few eyes. Nice.

April can be a cold month, like last year,
Hoping it is the beginning of Spring & above 40° at night soon. :)

Checking isn't necessarily an indicator of dry wood. Checking is caused when the exposed end dries and the cells shrink while the insides are still wet and the cells have not yet started to shrink. So the outside wants to be smaller while the inside won't let it. This causes the wood to crack and check. So in reality all that checking means is that at one point the cut end was much drier than the interior. The insides can still be wet. On top of that cracks and checks can even close up as the insides dry and the wood reaches equilibrium and the pressure that caused the checking is reduced.

All true… but take a look at the "seasoned firewood" that's delivered as dry after 8 months off the stump. It would be at least some indicator for folks buying wood.

Should be dry enough to burn by 2016/17.
It's to refill the section of the shed I'll use up this season ( 13/14 )
Might have some left over if Spring hurries :)

How many cords do you go thru usually in a season?

Right where I want to be.
Not meaning to gang up here, but unfortunately, that's the common misconception.
I c/s/s some Oak last fall and within a week or so in the sun, the ends looked just like that.
We all know it takes a couple minutes longer than that for Oak to dry.;)

I'm not disagreeing… just saying if there's no checking/spliting at the ends of wood that's delivered as dry… it usually isn't.

Jealous that your snow is gone. I know you normally have your share, so I give a pass this year. We still have snow up to my butt. Have you got stuff going in the greenhouse yet? I haven't done a darn thing. I'm busted up this year. The ice got me.

Not very much in Homer. Small town.
In our climate (fairly low humidity) wood cut/split in spring to early summer is generally ok to burn that winter. I tell folks to give it a full year, but I know most don't.
