That's me when I hear chainsaws running that aren't mine. Yesterday, I hear chainsaws. A tree service was across the street dealing with a forked ash that had split off a number of years ago, and was hung up in some adjacent trees. They had a bucket truck and it made for some entertainment just watching them. So... I chatted them up and asked (of course) about the wood, as they had a chipper with them. They said they were going to chip up as much as they could. I casually mentioned that I'd clean up the logs, if they wanted to leave it. They weren't sure what the owner wanted done with the logs (?). I teh mentioned that their son burns and that he'd probably want it. Nothing more was discussed. I'm outside this morning doing some splitting and stacking when I hear chainsaws again. So, off I went. Same place, one guy. One of the guys I chatted up yesterday. He was loading logs into his truck. So, I chatted him up again. Told him if he wanted to just handle the wood once, that he could dump it on my land. He looked it over and...... BINGO He trashed his chainsaw chain, so I got one big log. You can see the darkened area on it, where it has split off the main trunk. Loads up with a load of smaller logs Up the hill he comes
There's some standing dead oak in the logs as well. This'll help to make sure I have enough seasoned wood for 2018-19. Guessing maybe 1.5 cords
Now that's a home run! He saves a bunch of time not having to haul it away and you get Ash and oak delivered to your wood processing area... I'm guessing your pretty close to your cord and a half guess too... Nice pics by the way!
Mike, this is a good testament on continuing the pursuing of an idea. You asked and then went back and asked again. Good for you and you got some great firewood in return....delivered! Congratulations.
My thoughts too. Good idea but, whew... looks like it could flop the tractor easily. Gotta add... it sure would be awesome for working on a stonewall...
All I know about tractors is that today, they deliver wood to me. No idea about the weight setup. I didn't notice any front/back tipping . Sent from my SM-T280 using Tapatalk
Jack Straw did you see the grapple last weekend? That one would pick up easily double what Mike is showing and the only counter-weight on this tractor is loaded tires. It is amazing sometimes how much one can pick up without rear ballast.
Well MikeInMa, I hereby certify you as the winner of the “¥ou $uck” award for the day. Nice load, great pics, excellent BTU’s Heck, I might think that that “¥ou $uck” could hang around a few days....
That grapple is a lot closer to the tractor than the other one. Counter weight is so much safer and better for your tractor.
NO WAY! You mean I've finally gotten my first "you suck" award? Wait until my mother hears about this! I feel like I really belong here now. ~feeling tears welling up~ Sent from my SM-T280 using Tapatalk
