Hanging around outside work today, guy pulls up in an older f350 with big wooden side rails, towing a car trailer with a couple sheets of plywood on it covered in bark scraps. I take a peek in the bed, and it's got a bunch of maple in it.. On a whim, I ask the man if he's looking for a place to dump the wood. "Yep," he says, "if I bring it home, I'll have to move it five times before I ever get rid of it." "My truck is right over there" says I, pointing at my new to me f250. "Let's load up." Just a couple minutes' work between the two of us. Here's the haul. Just one truckload, but it pushes me closer to getting two years ahead.. No small chore at 15 cord/yr. Had to leave one 6"x6' limb behind to grab tomorrow, as I haven't moved my straps from old truck to new truck yet. Best part came when we exchanged numbers, and I found that he rubs a tree service and has a land clearing gig coming up right next to my town! Said he'll "definitely be in touch" when it starts. Whoop! Don't prod me too hard on not having it split and stacked yet.. I'll get to that tomorrow when the rain stops.
Yeah great score! Now get the straps loaded in the new truck before you lose more points on your “Man Card”!! LG Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Got most of it split and stacked this evening. I have a few five footers left to css, but I'm out of daylight.
Nice little score Papi. Hope fully the other part about the land clearing works out for. That would be a nice score!
Aaaaand, the You Suck award of the day goes to... BigPapi ! You lucky dog, you- truck load of bucked maple, backed up to your truck and help with loading? Score!
Rain stopped me from finishing today, but tomorrow is looking pretty good after we get back from a family member's birthday party, though my time may be occupied with a huge red oak Mrs Papi found on her local Myface group. Wasn't sure of species until I got it split - definitely red (thought it might have been sugar) maple. No complaints here, I like it for non-arctic winter loads. Burns steady and coals well without leaving too much ash. I burned a lot of it this year especially, and only had a little in next year's stack.
I have done the same when I see a fully loaded logging truck but as of yet, I haven't had the same good luck as you did! Those rounds look full of sapstreak....matters nothing when used for firewood. It just lowers (greatly) the lumber value of maple. Lucky dog.
Yeah, Nice "work" ...........if you could call it that! Seems there have been a lot of really nice scrounges by members lately. Whats up with that?
Lol the full trucks never seem to want to dump free, do they? The sap streak is pretty neat on some of these - I cut a few cookies, we'll see if I ever get to making something out of them. Finished up this evening. This will begin the 8 cord cube, hopefully for 19-20.
