I’ve been reading a lot of folks muffler modding their saws. And since I like to tinker and potentially cost myself more money due to screw ups I’m interested in doing such. Although it’s tough to find something specific to my saw, it seems to me at least that most muffler mods are similar across the board. I have a jonsered 2258....anyone have any pointers as I move forward. I’d like to do it right, or best way possible. I just have a real problem leaving stuff alone
Jonsered is pretty much a husqvarna, and from what I've read, husqvarna has a very free flowing exhaust already. 2 strokes need some back pressure to run efficiently, if you open up the exhaust too much you are just making more noise and blowing fuel out the exhaust for nothing
Yes the 2258 is the husky 555 equivalent. I certainly don’t want to be hasty in doing any mods for no gains Thanks for input
Gills are an easy way to get started in saw modding. Draw your slot, cut it and pry it open. This pic shows my son using a file to prevent the oposite side from being pushed in.
Next step for me was a second port with a deflector. Then I started going more direct (straight out).
I just saw an alert from this thread. I actually forgot about it, but now I know what they look like, anyway. I removed the factory deflector, went in through the inlet and outlet and removed as much of the exhaust baffle/tube as l could, and replaced the deflector with a new large size from Red97. I trimmed off the corners and installed using steel rivnuts. These are the only pics I took This muffler is a tough one with the tube inside there. Definitely one of the more difficult mufflers to mod for more flow
