What’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever done with a tool?

I am a traditionalist, I guess, nothing creative. Drilled through my fingernail once, and into my thigh once. I really enjoy hitting my thumb with a hammer, so much so that I have done it twice in 10 minutes. Had a car fall off a jack when I was using it on a gravel driveway. Cut through a cord with a skillsaw. Drilled all the way through an aileron (on an airplane) when trying to drill through one side only, because I was going to be careful enough to not need a drill stop.

There are a few others I am not thinking off. I am sure I have had tools toss things across the room, but can't remember the details.

Loaned a chainsaw to a neighbor.....that's by far the dumbest thing I've ever done with a tool.

A friend of mine left his framing hammer on an 8’ step ladder and then moved the ladder. :hair:

Bought a Dewalt belt sander and attempted to use it, worse yet was returning it and getting a second one and attempting to use it also.

The Black & Decker USA made back then works perfectly.

I cut off half of my left thumb with a heavy, sharp-as-heck hatchet splitting kindling. I was old enough to know better. I remembered to grab the cut-off piece so the emergency docs could put it back on. This was pre-micro surgery, so that didn't happen. However, I can now open stuck jar lids much better with my left hand due to increased leverage of the shorter thumb!

First day learning how to build truck beds I put a nice big long bead in the wrong spot and welded the truck bed to the big table instead of welding the two pieces of channel together.

I once misinterpreted directions and cut a big hole out of a brand new tool box door over a foot off, like usual it was clear as day the second I finished.

One day I thought "I wonder why nobody ever mows that part of the property?" Promptly found out why when I caused the tractors belly to meet the ground. Had to dig it out with a shovel and have dad pull me out. Joy filled memories

Not too long ago I was repairing a trailer in the parking lot. I was swinging a sledge sideways when I "went for it" and missed and sent the sledge skipping across the parking lot. I quickly looked around and went and retrieved it and acted like nothing happened.

Man I have done some stupid stuff. But thinking back on 75 to 80% was due to not having the right tool.

Like I always say (and this is an original) “You can always get the job done with the right tool, but you can also always get the job done with enough of the wrongs tools!

Rode a manual pallet jack down the fairly short, but somewhat steep hill (towards the road) like it was a scooter at the warehouse. It got going too fast for me to bring it to a controlled stop without hurting myself, so I jumped off as I cocked the handle to the side so it would crash into the curb and not go into the road. It worked perfectly, until it bounced off the curb and headed straight for the road! I missed the back end of a car by 3-4 feet. He never saw it coming. And that’s a good thing because if he had slowed down or stopped it probably would have t-boned his car.

I caught a double bump from a bostich shooting 3.5" galvenixed nails for fencing. Dads tool had 1 of 2 saftey springs attached to the saftey head.... Went into my left index finger knuckle. No idea how it missed anything important.......

Once while cutting a hedge with a gas hedge cutter, wasn't paying attention and slightly caught my jeans on the front of my left thigh, looked at it and went back to work and a couple of seconds later I leg felt wet. Low and behold I ended up with 12 stitches and a nasty doctors bill to pay
