I was gonna say the same thing. Go in the dead of winter. The "urban" folks dont like the cold. The murders shooting and drug dealing go way down statistically in the cold. They say its too cold to even gun down each other. Look at Chicago Chrome states this and last winter !! Compared to summer. Summer time you had e a better chance to be shot there than in iraq but winter its far safer.

I think the drug dealing just goes inside in the cold. Don't tell me these folks clean up every winter.

But yeah, Southfield will be ok, nothing like Detroit. Plenty of bmw's, Mercedes, and six figure income there. Mostly hotels and offices. I doubt that your hotel would be very far from the training place.
I live about 50 miles from Detroit. One of my favorite things is when traveling, and I get asked where I'm from, I say Detroit. It is the closest big city. People's eyes get huge, and you get instant 'don't mess with that guy' notoriety. Use the tools you're given I guess.

I don't tell them I live in a hick town, in the middle of 150 acres of corn, on a road with only a few houses. But hey, we have our dangers here too, just more predictable most of the time.

I think its still $5 a drink, but I used to load up in the airport lounge.

I was flying back from Los Angeles years ago (2003/2004 I think) a few days before Northwest announced they were laying off a bunch of flight attendants. Myself and the guy sitting next to me were joking with the flight attendant about how we'd heard it was 'free drink Friday'. She came back a few minutes later, said she probably wouldn't have a job next week, so what did we want? Jack and Coke flowed freely for a bit over 4 hours. Good thing I had a layover in Detroit to sober up.

I couldn't even guess how many miles I've flown. The only times I was nervous was flying into Dallas in 2005 (nasty thunderstorm) and flying into Tampa near the end of June 2012 when tropical storm Debby was going through. Both times the passengers started clapping when the wheels touched the ground.

I think you said you're going in August. The third Saturday in August is the Woodward Dream Cruise. That alone is worth the trip.

Didnt mean the drug dealing and use falls off but more like the drug killings and such by the tweekers falls off as well as the gang bangers shooting each other up over drug wars.

Whiskey or a shot of something is my choice if flying. I flew from Ohio to England and drank beer at the airport bar before the flight. I was bloated and felt like crap for most of the flight. International flights used to have free drinks and domestic flights charged you for drinks but I was on one flight that wouldn't even offer alcoholic drinks.

Good luck in Detroit, bob and weave.

It is much better than it was but still very sore, especially if I sit for too long. My back must be feeling better though because I first noticed the giant bruise on my leg today...back must have overshadowed that for a couple days. Thanks for asking :)
