Have a few of these, but they're not like the other hickory trees, the ones I'm used to seeing. Tree ID of both species would be useful. Thx Chaz
2nd Pic Shagbark hickory 1st I'm not sure if it's the same or not, I'm used to seeing much bigger segments of bark "shagging" like in the second picture
Kinda funny, I actually imagined the first to be the shagbark hickory for some reason. I've seen the term a lot, but never associated that with what I've always considered a "common hickory". Figured the first one was more on the "shaggy" side. Never heard of such trees. But then again, there's plenty I don't know.
Yep, ironwood, aka American hophorn beam on the first, and some sort of shagbark hickory on the second. That ironwood is great firewood. Pretty much burns just like shagbark.
Chaz, when you get out here we'll look at some ironwood and hickory and methinks you'll see the same thing you have pictured.
