Please, be careful out there, no battery your experience. From Haverhil, Ma. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HAVERHILL (CBS) – A man was killed by a falling tree in Haverhill. The Essex District Attorney’s Office said 60-year-old Michael Sughrue and his son were clearing tree branches in his backyard on Hoyt Street when the accident happened around 5 p.m. Sunday. “One large tree had snapped in half and was leaning against another nearby tree. As the man was trying to cut down the snapped tree, the supporting tree gave out and the snapped tree fell on top of him,” D.A. spokeswoman Carrie Kimball Monahan said in a statement Monday. Firefighters cut the tree, pulled it off Sughrue and he was rushed to Holy Family Hospital where he died. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Falling Tree Kills Man In Haverhill Sent from my SM-T280 using Tapatalk
I hate reading about these. When I was much younger I worked as a ground man on my university's tree crew. Seemed like every year some poor sap who did my job would have a widow maker swing down, catch him in the head, and kill him. Having already survived one such attempt by a maple, I grew almost paranoid about having my head on a swivel. I can't tell you how many times I've chosen to let nature and her storms take down an ugly one in the old man's woods rather than attempt it myself.
Sadly, this one hits close for me. This gentleman's son works with me. I saw the initial call on an alert notification when it happened and did not hear the outcome until today. Definitely shocking. Not much more I want to say but thoughts and prayers to his family.
That is sad and only 60 years old. Sorry to hear of such accidents. I have cut down a few leaners like that and they do make me nervous when doing so.
We may joke around a lot on this site but when we are in the woods we must be focused on safety at all times. Stay safe.
I saw this on the Connecticut news. Hit home as far as safety awareness. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes, this is sad and my condolences to the family and friends. I cut down a small poplar near the house a few days back. I tied it off so it could not fall on the house but it ended up hung up at the top in another tree. The tree was not large enough for the weight to take it on down but it was still big enough that it could have killed me if it landed on me; or caused some serious injury to say the least. I avoided walking under the tree and got to the other side where the rope was. I started tugging on the rope to get some motion in the tree and it came on down. I listen to what you guys say and think about it when I am working.
With those kinds of experiences, sounds like you’ve taken a lot at hand and weighed it carefully as life gets fragile for that matter. Hate reading about it too... what is on paper doesn’t always document the horrors..
Your head IS SUPPOSED to be on a SWIVEL when your falling ANY tree People that don't look up and around constantly are just medical statistics waiting to happen !!!! That being said, it's best to have a professional take care of danger trees !
Very sad but its good we hear about these things and have them posted so it reminds us that the dangers we all talk about here have real consequences. My grandpa was killed falling trees for a friend when I was 19. Ill never forget the day my mom came to my job site to tell me the news. Stay safe friends and prayers go out to the family.
