Put a Full load on the old Busk this morning And got busy with something else. Mimi was sitting next to the stove sewing, So no big deal right? Wrong! After 45 years you’d think I’d know better :hair:
When I finally Came back to the stove, it looked like the fires of hell.
What little there was in the flue was now ALL white ash.......flue cleaning done. :D Mind you I don’t recommend this, but it sure does work good.

I had some ash roaring this morning and noticed a little glow back in the flue. I quickly cut off the air and it disappeared but I think I'll be up on the roof sweeping this evening one last time for the season. I hope I'll be done burning soon.

It was "your" fault in her mind?, I don't see how????

Reason I say this is because if the roles were reversed.........................she'd still blame you.

    Total BS.

If this method works for the fire chief, then it's good enough for me to try!

I'm gonna bet that every one here has gotten sidetracked at one point or another during their lighting/burning career.

Glad you had a safe recovery.

I did something similar with my old stove a couple of times. Came home from a night shift in the dead of winter, first thing I did was open the draft, fill the stove then lay down on the couch to wait for the wood to catch. Only to awake an hour or so later in a room that is 100+ degrees and a stove that has gone nuclear. Any guesses as to why I have a new stove?

I remember one time when I was quite young forgetting to turn down the stove. Dang that thing got hot; red hot in places. Yes, I caught HeII for that one.

Then later on in like we had a cheap steel stove that was made with too thin of steel and I got that one red hot a couple times. It does strengthen some muscles after the puckering.

The guy who married my niece burnt his shop to the ground because he got side tracked and forgot to close the door on the wood burner.:picard:

One night in 2016 I packed my insert with the final load before bed and fell asleep on the couch before turning the air down. I woke up 4 hours later to an empty stove. The strange part is that it was right before my mid season flue cleaning and the amount and consistency of what I brushed out was the same as always.

Those late night reloads will get ya! I make it a point to sit in the chair directly across from the stove, which is way too uncomfortable to fall asleep in until the bypass can be closed and then choked down before bed.
