If it is ironwood, it is probably the biggest I've ever seen. They just don't grow very big normally. Tight rings; slow growing.
I didn't have anything tied off except the mystery tree, I had wedges in the others though. Definitely had some adrenaline going, working on that slope didn't tickle my fancy much and getting out of the way quickly was top priority. I was wondering what I got myself into after everywhere down, sure is alot of work getting those up the hill.
At first I thought Elm...but the more I look I am inclined to say it does have some variety of Hickory look to it...and if its tight grained and hard...that lines up...
What's going to happen with the wood now is I'm going to work on it here and there until I get it cleaned up. Since I'm not ready to die yet I have to be more careful to not get rolled over by them being on the hillside. And then I split where they are because I'm not man enough to get them up the hill in one piece, toss splits up to flatter ground (real efficient like) and then load into truck to haul off. Then they will sit around for a few years and then vanish into thin air, and ashes. I may stash this stuff away in the barn for myself if I wind up getting a stove in the future or if my dad puts one out in his garage. If not then it will likely be given away after it is dried.
Since I don't burn any wood you could say I'm on the infinity plan, I'm way way ahead. I stock up wood and then give it away, it's my own little ministry I do when I get the chance. I've considered selling some before but haven't done that yet.
Sounds like a good plan. I asked because sometimes you get to take some when helping or rare occasion, not. Situationally of course! Always cool to know how to help on that end. Even if the in laws don’t necessarily burn.
Here's a couple more pics if the mystery tree, didn't get a chance to split any of the rounds though.
And some near future work lined up for me too, more dead reds, a bunch of oaks still left so we will see how they do in the future. This one is down in bottom, gonna be fun getting it out Plan is to hook the cable onto that leaner and drag the bottom out from under it, then cut the stumps off the others and cable them and drag them up. There are several other dead reds also but many are too far in or too far gone.
