The roof panels are suntuf panels from hd. We'll see how they do. Not too worried about snow load, if it becomes and issue shlild be easy shovel some off. The roll up tarp door would always be up except for rainy stretches and of bigger concern snow. The shed faces east and normally at the start of our snow storms there is a pretty good east wind and the shed would start to fill with snow Ibelieve. This is what i was looking at making for it.
Yes, if you insist on having a cover there, how about canvas rather than tarp? Or even the rubber roofing.
1690 sq ft house with a heat n glo northstar. Probably burn 80% of the time. Furnace kicks on from about 4 till 7am.
Madtown I see you were posting as I was typing. You are right about rain and snow blowing in from the east. However, if that is all you want the tarp for, I'd forget it. The wood won't soak up the moisture (it is not a sponge unless it is punky). The rain and snow hits the wood but it will soon dry; usually within 24 hours. We have a wood rack on our south porch and it is open so that it catches rain and snow from the SE all winter long. In addition, we do not put wood in the house but when the stove needs wood we just get it off the porch. Yes, sometimes it has some snow on it, which we knock off. Sometimes it is a little wet on the top or the one end. We don't worry about that at all as it is just surface moisture and will dry off as soon as you put it into the stove; sort of like the moisture that is inside the wood. That burns off quickly too. So I'd suggest saving your dollars and buying a beer or three instead.
If driving snow and rain is anything like it is here and that's the supply you're going to be picking from in nasty weather I would have a rollup of some sort as well. Nothing like using a sledge hammer in February to knock some splits out of the ice in February. You do the drying out splits on the basement floor once and then you start thinking ahead. Or drink beer. Pick one.
I hear ya guys. I am not really worried about the moisture, but more so just dont want to deal with snow and crap on it when I run out to get wood in my sandals in the middle of winter
