I fell 3 dead oak trees this morning. Here is some of the wood in my pickup. [IMG] after splitting I checked the moisture with a meter and it’s at 17.5%! I can burn this stuff now if I wanted. Maybe I will have some quality wood for next year. I have access to about 10 more trees just like this in a good friends lot. My problems now is my crappy Craftsman/Poulan saw wont keep running. My wife said maybe it’s time for a new saw!! Sounds like the go ahead to get one to me.

Hey that’s great man! Keep cutting and you’ll find yourself good and ready. Split em small. I don’t burn much oak here, I have it but its so darned hot sometimes. Good news though!

I recommend a Dolmar/Makita, 45-55 cc. Stay away from the junk in the box stores.

That should be some very nice firewood. Get all you can!

It also sounds like you have a wonderful wife. Do you have the new saw yet?

Yep if you are a serious firewood hoarder then you will need a new saw.

I have a STIHL crown dealer nearby I’m headed to this afternoon. I’m looking at a saw in 50cc range with 18 to 20” bar. I haven’t ruled out a Husqvarna, but can only find them nearby at a Lowe’s or Tractor Supply.

Congratulations on the new family member. :) That saw should last for many years to come.
