We’re getting our big spring windstorm here today - gusts up to 75. So I took a stroll around the woods after work to survey the damage - probably not the smartest thing to do but I was curious. Had to make sure my sap buckets didn’t wander off too far either.

Spotted 5 new trees down - two poplar, a maple, a cherry, and an ash. Three in one blow in this pile.

I think the poplars must have been volunteering to become saw logs. I didn’t take any for lumber last year when my neighbor had his woodmizer here but I wanted to have some from the property. They fell into the field between mine and my neighbor’s house which is high and dry right now so I could get them out today if I wanted to. :quad:

Yeah, basically the reason I didn’t cut one before is because I don’t particularly care for the firewood - I prefer pine for shoulder wood. I didn’t want to pick the wrong log and end up with a bunch of firewood and no lumber. Now they’re down already so I’ll see what I get. They look pretty straight but the one that snapped off had an anthill in the base.

Seems to be a lot of this going on, trees coming down everywhere.Mother nature made your decision of what and when to cut for you Shawn Curry . Those winds are due to arrive here overnight, we shall see what they do around here. At least the three that are down together do not have massive intertanlged crowns.

Had the same issue here Shawn Curry, the wind took down a pine that I was intending to drop as it died out in 2016. Neighbor has a lot of pine on the property line and some look like they just got mangled.

Took a walk up on the hill with the dog in tow, things were better than expected up there, only a few saplings uprooted and fell over.

But yeah, the wind was quite eerie walking through all the trees, and listening for any cracking sounds.

Wow Shawn, that is a mean wind! I would not be walking around in the woods with that happening.

Supposed to get windy again here tomorrow but not that strong; only 40 mph but that is strong enough.
