Many years back I tossed a log into the bed of my old Dodge pick up and it landed it the seat with the back window in pieces:eek:… I've been extra careful with this truck but almost did it again.
This window is "BIG"$$$$ because it's 3 piece and has an electric's in it. So I just figure I would pass this along.

I started to build a window guard and then looked at the price, time, materials etc…. I found this "great" guard, easy to install, and for $300 clams said and done it was "WELL" worth it!
I got it through Summit racing but I'm sure it's available else where.
As fellow hoarders, I'm sure someone else has smashed out a window or two, I figure this might be some good info:)

I've seen cost estimates joking about what it costs to heat with wood… they add the price of a new rear window in the truck every year… ;)

Nice. I like it. Never smashed out my rear window before. But I could certainly see how it would be done. Could you take the one you were thinking of building and just build a frame to match that and mount on the rear? Then you would have a ladder rack. Long boards, canoe, etc.

I had an old 1982 Dodge, I absolutley loved the old girl… 360ci motor, so many scratches on it, it looked like it had been fighting with a tiger… a few dents here and there, but it ran good, I used to load that thing with a ton of wood:eek:… tossed a piece of wood in one day and right through the back window it went.:jaw::(

I find that i am hard on the taillights for some reason. Looks good and makes it look work truck worthy. I don't have a header board right now and plan on making a wooden one when i redo the side boards.

I've been lucky with taillights with the exception that my Daughter took out one years back with a basketball:zip:.

Thats a good idea. Funny, the only time I'm bouncing stuff off the back window is when I'm loading splits. I try not to but they have a mind of their own sometime.
    I like the backrack products...

Dont forget all those that haul an atv back there And pull too far forward and smash it out when loading. This solves that too.

My BIL smashed his out this way a few years back.

Killed the back window of my Canyon with the tongue of my log splitter two days before Hurricane Sandy ripped through. That was fun trying to get that replaced on short notice. Got it in just in time (the morning of) though!

I really hate it when I do stuff like that… … yeah, I'll bet after Sandy, the glass companies were kinda busy. Good move to get r' done fast before.

The headache rack looks good. My old truck lost a rear window and a side view mirror. I have looked at getting a headache rack but the two stake holes toward the cab are covered up with the mount. I need something that I can still use my side mounted wood racks.

Thanks guys! That was my first welding project, almost all welded with O/A. I have made a few more but I have since bought a mig to make things go a little quicker. I have one I am working on now that has skulls on the sides and crossed swords in the center that I think should look cool when finished. BTW, Backrack makes some nice stuff. My daughters fiancé has one on his truck that has taken some abuse and still looks good.
