did a drive around the acreage that borders my farm, which I have hunting and cutting permission for. Seemed every log Road has a tree across it. Two big maples alone will give me a couple months worth of wood in the future. I did cut up a smaller 8 inch deadfall that was standing dead long enough for all the bark to be gone. It may be a maple as well. It is true that wood has to be split before it will season. This thin was pretty dry, but there is a little moisture still in the center. With the extended forecast it looks like the boiler will be going to May.
Yep, given the continued cold I guess a bunch of downed trees isn't the worst thing. Nice looking woodlot too btw. Hoard on!
That broken tree trunk to the right of the lower photo has some good dry bark free broken up pieces that can go straight into the fire. There is some good wood on the remaining standing portion too, but I won’t drop it. It will serve well to provide shelter and and insects for all varieties of wildlife.
Let’s see if I can post my first video Its about 3/4 of a mile into deep woods. Pretty good buffer against- nope, not going to say it....
