Another trip to Plattsburgh , NY for work, spent the night at my sisters in lake Placid. Her house backs up on wild land that borders the Adirondack National park land. Nothing like a good hour of cross country skiing to start the day! Especially the view from the top of the ridge, surrounded by the Adirondack high peaks. My brother in laws wood shed, double barrel sap boiler, and the OWB they heat the house with. Whiteface mountain on my way home
Felt like Christmas morning, my splitter got here yesterday, got to assemble it today There weren't any instructions , so I had fun putting it together. Starting to look like a splitter
Stood the beam up, then attached the hinge , no heavy lifting The wedge and beam dropped right in place, little details like this show the quality in the design. The hoses were a bit of a challenge, at least I know how the fluid circulates, and the valve body has out cast into one port
Kudos to your no-instructions-successful-assembly splitter! I am famous for moving forward without instructions, getting to the end and saying, “this extra couple of bolts and nuts just must be extras...”
The factories ALWAYS provide spare parts. And they hide spare parts in the equipment so if you ever take it apart again you have a few spares to work with.
Work table arms, I added a large washer between the lower arms and the beam to tip the table toward the beam , picked up that tip on another site. Drilling a hole in my brand new splitter So I can add a bolt to keep rounds from dropping onto the engine.
I may add more to keep from bashing the engine. It's interesting, the engine is a Loncin, not even the Kohler I read normally comes with these. It looks pretty close to the predator on my HF splitter, possibly bigger though. I figure if the motor is junk, I can always replace it with a predator, my own predator motor is still starting on the second pull a few years later. The return filter and pump look a little exposed, I'm going to figure out a bracket to protect it, probably using angle iron and the existing beam bolts. My first load for Saturday, another empty IBC tote for the pallet rack roof, and my new splitter
Drove by this house on the way home from work with the splitter. Went back and got permission to cut up all the downed wood. Turns out they just bought the house , and don't have the money to pay for tree removal . With all this , they were fortunate, none of it touched the house , cars, or wires. Second load of the day (after the splitter) Nicely fills in the end of my great Wall of rounds , maybe I should offer my services to trump for his wall
My favorite way to carry rounds, with my two XA22 pickaroons. I have the logox and the timbertuff thing with two hooks , I just find these are the most versatile for moving rounds as they become extensions of my arms , grabbing, dragging , carrying and lifting easily. I like how light they are, as it makes lifting them almost effortlessl when unloaded . I nailed myself in the foot with one, was very glad for the steel toes , as it didn't punch through the leather, it did make the side of my toe smart for a while though , just from the shock of the tip hitting against the steel toe. It glanced off a frozen round. .. Used the sides of the packing crate to roll the splitter across the snow, for all that I love snow, I'm ready for the yard to be clear of it, I have a bunch of wood to stack, and a new rack to make, but currently there's a 4 foot deep drift in the way. In other good news, the lady across the street from the house I was cutting at, offered me the limbs from her big tree that fell, I may have to put the 24" Bar on to cut them!
Actually this came with the exact amount of hardware needed, with only one thing I can't identify, a steel cap or cup about the size of the hub caps, but not crimped like they are. the extra hardware came from my hardware scrounge in my tool box at work. The splitter came drained for shipping, so I got a bucket of hydro oil, and a bottle of oil, probably $50 total.
