Looking good there! I wonder if you sold just the solid logs or plan to plane them into boards? Might make a nice thread over in the market and milling section if that’s up to your liking! I stumbled on walnut last year, already cut into rounds so it wasn’t going to really be good for anything other than burning. Heavy stuff though.

Sure makes some beautiful firewood! I had the same issue a couple years back after my dad sold several of his walnuts, tops everywhere and no sawmill to make something out of them. Wound up cutting alot for firewood but could hardly give the stuff away.

The people who buy campfire wood from me like black walnut. Smells good while burning and has a nice blue flame.

I like walnut if the bark is off of it. It produces a bit more ash than normal anyway, but if you burn the bark watch out. You might as well back a dump trailer up to the unload the ashes.

I sell normally by the face or full cord normally in the fall. During the summer the camping folks don't want near that much so I made a rack that holds about 250# and get $25 for it. This doesn't look like much but it won't fit in the trunk of a small sedan. It will be one rank across the back of a medium SUV. Now that I look at it, that is some black walnut right there.

Coals up something terrible as you have a 1” thick coating of ash by the time it’s half burned. I can relight after 48-72 hours easily but it’s not producing any heat after 16-18 hours

I burn a bunch of it. Pretty flame as already mentioned, its blue/purple/green... yes it has lots of big puffy ashes. Ive never experienced the coaling issue mentioned above. Except the big ashes the performance is similar to lesser maples to me, but Id give a notch or two better, too the walnut. Enjoy! It splits great.

I like the perfumy smell of walnut burning.

If I may ask you lefties, what price per board foot did you get out of them?
