    Its actually amazing they even went after trees that big! With primitive cutting tools you think theyd just bypass that stuff and go for the more reasonably sized wood.

    How do you even mill wood that big even today...?

    I did an after install inspection of a new Nordberg MFG diesel eng. at a mill in Idaho. It was powering a bandsaw 2 stories tall. The diesel replaced a steam unit that was running a genny. Another unit there was a reciprocating multi-blade saw system running vertically sized the slabs from the bandsaw. They were converting from steam drives to point of use electric drives eliminating a lot of overhead shaft belt drive configurations. Wish I had pictures of all that.
