I'm going out there, we'll see how long I last. I'm trying to burn these yew stumps up today. They burn really hot, so it's good to burn them when it's cold. They take up a lot of space, aren't easy to load in the stove, and are generally a pain, except they give so much heat.
I got a few like that I'm burning today also, I like to burn them when I'm around to flip and poke them over every now and then. It's BTU's!
A beautiful day so far here. Sunny with not a cloud in the sky and temperature in the low 40's. Nice! I also saw my first robin this morning. Several people saw some about 2 weeks ago but this is the first one I've seen this year.
Nope, sun and clouds. I worked up a sweat despite the wind, carrying wood into the basement and splitting honey locust with my new maul. No more whining about the weather, I'm going out every day I possibly can.
Got home from our outing about 5:30. Have long pcs of hickory and elm in e-w which I rarely do. Heading for 18 overnight and it's nice and warm in here. Good day today, big buffet breakfast, flea mkt and then a few other shops. Stopped at a favorite market and stocked up on cheese, deli meats, jerky and some bulk goodies. Then early dinner at another local diner, shared a piece of homemade coconut cream pie and then stopped for homemade ice cream. Thought I was going to have to leave the car there and take the bus so I could nap on the way home.
Burning birch tonight. Current temp 1°F heading down to -3° to -7°F but i think it will be colder. Why in the world this says thunderstorms ending at 10pm?
I'm shooting for 2 years supply once I start this spring. Tho we've been having warm afternoons. This morning it was +11° here at the cabin. Winter is not over yet. We could still see 30 below. Hopefully it will be a dry spring. Currently +39° . Was a bit warmer about 3 - 4 this afternoon. Course, its not getting dark till 8:30 pm or so now.
39 out now. Fires both inside and out tonight. I lit Miss October this morning/‘noon and just now. One small young Doug fir log and the other is a big Scot Pine split(Smells fantastic btw). Just getting cold at nights and I’ve been good at keeping the heaters off.
We had 9 deg this AM, I had to go to work @ 0430. So no time for a relight, Mrs, MM will take care of that. That is her full time job for 6 months of the year anyway, at least when I'm away.
Dang, you guys out east are getting hit with winter for sure. Here, we keep praying for spring and warmer weather but you need it big time. We got into the mid 40's yesterday and they say we should see 50 or higher today. We have not seen clouds for several days now and that really seems good because in MI we don't see a lot of sun from late fall through winter. But that sun has not warmed things too much yet. Supposed to drop 20 degrees in temperature by tomorrow and another week mostly in the 30's here. Spring will come....
I didn't realize it was still that cold in the east .. I thought it was only MN that gets that lucky lol.. we had low of 18f here. And on my last bundle of slabs ... Now only wet oak left it's hard to get wet oak to burn on a warmer day . Heat550 Sent from my LG-H900 using Tapatalk
It is currently 22* , I don't think the high temp for the day will be much above that. We're burning my 3 yr. seasoned Oak in what should be S/S.
My wife just saw our first Robin on our front porch roof Dennis. They must be having a hard time staying warm at night when it’s 2F. Pretty cold last night and the next two. Hopefully they can survive it.
