Found this piece of Elm at the local compost pile. Could not pass it up.

In case you are wondering I put a winch on the front of the trailer and winched it up on there.
I will use my tractor to take it off.

That’s a beast, what are your plans for cutting/splitting it up? How much firewood do you think you will get out of it?

I am thinking of milling some of it and cutting up some for firewood. It was probably so big that no one else wanted it.

I am sure that it was so big nobody else wanted it. Most people don't have a saw big enough to deal with that.

You've done a service to the compost pile. That thing would have been there until the end of time. :)

Please update the thread when you mill it.. I'd love to see how it looks inside!

Ditto. Post lots of pictures of you cutting that monster up. I've got a dead monster elm I'll be dealing with before too long.

Some of it I will not be able to mill because I do not have a mill big enough for it. But the one end of the trunk I can get.

By the picture you'd think that's the only elm log within a hundred miles! Nice score. Lot of work getting that one into firewood pieces.

So I unloaded the piece of Elm today. I could not lift it with the loader it was just to heavy so I pulled it out with the tractor.

I then cut one end off so I could lift it and move it over to some pallets.
I will decide later what I am going to do with it.
