Thats how I get kindling, along with splitter splits and bark scraps.
I have two 45 gall drums worth on hand all from old pallets plus corners and centers.

My father builds caskets for the local undertaker, so I get his scraps, but there is something inherently satisfying about splitting up wood small with a hatchet.

That looks like some good kindling to me.

I used to split scraps of 2x4's in half for kindling but now I that I have a chainsaw mill I might just start sawing my own splits.

My small axes went in the bin , I used to whack them with a 4 lb lump hammer to split my rounds until a piece chipped off and went through a vein inside my elbow
They left it in my arm
