I started a small firewood company in north central Ohio. We sell bulk wood, bundles, and pallets. I also heat with wood so I just wanted a forum to come and BS about firewood...
Welcome SelectiveHarvest , we certainly can and do BS about wood here, How long have you had your company running? Send some pics of that processor. We love pics.
I've been cutting and selling wood for 5 years but just made the company "legit" this year. The processor was a rental to get this years wood split up. My daily splitter is home made with a hydraulic log lift. We also selectively log people's woods when they only want a few trees removed. We have small equipment so we don't have a large logging foot print
You got some great toys there, I get pretty envious sometimes, but in a good for you way. I'm still enjoying my new splitter, so I'm happy.
The tractor is mine. The processor is rented and the truck was delivering the big logs. I'm not trying to look like a giant operation, im still small compared to most. We are hoping the bundles and pallets take off since they bring way more $$ per cord. I built a bundler a few years back that works great.
I heat the house with a central boiler, the shop with a Lilly, have a fireplace in the house and a fire pit that gets used a lot in the summer. So yeah I go through a lot of wood myself
Some pretty cool pics and we do like pics. Thanks for showing. Nice table and split holder there next to the fireplace.
Thanks. We needed a place to put wood and I had some slabs laying around. A little time with some rebar and the welder and there you have it.
Welcome! Nice pics! Be aware in some circles there is a negative connotation to the phrase “select/selection cutting”. (not implying in any way at all whatsoever this is what you are doing, just noting the wording has a history). “Select” Cutting: Method of Harvesting Trees https://www.fs.fed.us/pnw/olympia/silv/publications/opt/418_Curtis1998b.pdf
No problem. Most of the time the customer "Selects" which trees they want harvested. We do a lot of post large logging operation jobs. We go in and clean up the tops and trees that were damaged felling the large ones. We also clean up wind damage like these beauties.
Nice toys, owned and rented. The only way I would consider selling my hard work is bundled, because you do make a bundle of cash as opposed to cords. Loving that slab/ rebar log holder. You could sell that to the yuppies for several Benjamins!
Welcome aboard SelectiveHarvest. This is a great group of people here. You're going to enjoy it here. You're about 30 min from me.
Thanks a lot. I'd sell them a table and the wood to go with it. I have a nice squared off log that might be a little big for a table. It's going to be fire pit seating. It's 11ft long and a few lbs
