The tree trimmers dropped a couple of Red Maples past the garage. So I finally had some time to go acuttin'. Didn't take long to do, but some of those big ones were heavy to roll around. Then I went after a Cherry I've been wanting to get out of the woods for a while. I ran out of Bar oil and went to the hardware store and saw all this Oak laying in the woods under the power lines to the traffic light. Score! Bonus Oak! All in all, a good day cutting, I'm tired but happy. Now I have 4 to 5 cords to start splitting next week. An impending snowstorm is great motivation to get things done! 4-5 cords before the flakes fly, good timing!

My back hurts seeing all those rounds laying there! Free wood is the best wood. That's like finding a free propane tank in the woods

I admit that I actually drove past a load of oak piled right on the side of the road to go after the maple just down the street. Too far behind to deal with oak right now.

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned.

Unfortunately, I need the fast seasoning stuff right now. I found a honey hole full of large maples that Asplundah cut down. Need to hoarde as much of that as I can right now. Need to concentrate on next winter, nevermind 3 years from now!

The scrounging was almost non existent around here this past fall/winter.

Lol I know. I would be more likely to grab it if it wasn't mud season. For now all wood goes in my staging area in front of the house. Anything that is to be processed later goes out back, but I can't get to it without destroying the lawn.

I feel your pain I have lot of split wood in piles that I want to get stacked but it’s way to muddy to be pulling the trailer around the yard.

No worries about me poaching in Pelham, I've got a backlog of splitting to do. I've got enough split and stacked for next winter, but I've got to get '19-'20 wood split so it can start drying this summer.
And my dump addiction keeps bringing plenty more in.

Your way is the best imo. Multiple small loads. Often when I go out its cutting, sometimes quartering, then stuffing as much as I can in the Bronco. Sometimes then rushing back to repeat the process. It's rough on the body for sure.
