Got 20" here and only a little wind. Did have a maple split in half and fall in the pond from all the wet snow stuck to it and also had the top snap out of a nice crab apple in the front yard. Had power at home the whole time but in town about 8 miles away they lost power all day.

I hate to use the term "perfect storm".. but the conditions were completely right for this kind of mayhem, at least here.

It started as rain, went to heavy wet sloppy snow, and everything iced over, allowing even more wet sloppy snow to stick to everything.

Talked to a co-worker a bit ago, he's been without service all weekend as a pine broke in half and took out the lines, he had to rent a genny to power the house.

I figure we had it pretty easy, lots of snow to move, some busted up trees, and a few hours of power out today. I can live with that. :D

Oh, and got my delivery of 2 facecord of wood today, so I think we're all set till summer decides to make me run the AC.

Spent the afternoon reconnecting some underground existing wires to get electricity from my house to my mom's house about 400 feet up the street.
She now has water (well pump) the fridge and the freezer powered.
Asplundh showed up to cut up the pine tree at 7;30PM just a few minutes ago that had the house feed wire pinned to the ground, but when the power guys get here who knows. This crew didn't bother waiting for the power to be shut off. The guy grabbed the wire bundle with his elbow/jacket and hefted it over the tree stub he had cut to and called it quits .

Also took a walk in the woods and got a better look around now that the wind has died down .
I've got two poplars, two cherries, a red oak, a white oak, a group of maples and pines so tangled it's hard to tell what's there so I'll call it two maples and 19 pine trees down. There's a bunch of small understory pines and maples pinned under I'm not counting. Anything under 30 or 40 feet I didn't count. Some are uprooted, some are snapped. About 75% are leaning on the next tree and 25% are on the ground.

Talked to a friend who lives near Boston and he was blessed in not losing power during the storm but was also blessed when a neighbor lost a locust tree. He, of course, was a good neighbor and cleaned up the mess.

    Got another coming on Wednesday!

Looks like less wind but more snow on this one. Personally I love winter storms and snow, so I can't wait!

Around 10" snow forecasted here. Higher amounts to the north and west.

My deck wood rack has been refilled. My 2-wheel log dolly is full and will be rolled inside tonight. 7gal water jug filled(never lost power last weekend). Already went out and bought what I need for milk sandwiches.

I have my small work table in the living room on a tarp. I'll be setting up my chainsaw chain sharpener/grinder and spend time sharpening. Yes - Mrs MikeinMa is away in Phoenix for the week.

    Cold beer in the fridge.

I reckon I'm good to go, I reckon.

Business as usual. Hope we get a huge amount.

I'll probably end up dumping 100+ gallons of sap to snowmobile instead of boil.

Personally I'd go a different route, get a pan, fill with snow, put on top of woodstove, make tea or coffee.
    Just sayin:coffee:

Didn't work the way I'd hoped.
Leaner on neighbors property, maple I believe. I'll be talking to him about this one soon.
    maple2.jpg

Pic of a maple that had one section break in half across the road. This one's on my property so it will be cut up.
Probably will have the elec company take down the other standing portion as it leans towards the high tension lines. I'm not that proficient at felling trees yet, and don't wanna be responsible for a large outage.

Rain here up til 10pm at 35 degrees. Really no winds overnight. Heavy snow reported locally 3" per hour with widespread power outages. Trees, lines down and transformers popping out. Some whole cities and towns are out. Hopefully the sun will be out to lighten up the trees and wires. Time to get things sorted for the day.
