My son's Boy Scout troop went 'cabin camping' at a Scout Camp at the edge of the Adirondacks this past weekend. I appointed myself the Supreme Overlord and Master of the woodstove and firewood supply, and this was my domain. They had all the tools for the job ready for me, including a hatchet, ash can and shovel, and even kindling wood and matches. Never have used an airtight stove before, so it took a little bit to get the damper settings adjusted. I got a good hot bed of coals going and then supplemented for 24 hours with a few small chunks every couple of hours. I really liked the metal shelf idea for storing wood. It kept the wood dry, off the floor, and subjected it to radiant heat for additional drying. The boys thought I was weird for sorting it by species. Soup pot on the left, and dish water on the right. Yes, that is a soda can drying on the line. And a Pringle, and a Doritos bag. Don't ask. Red oak, sugar maple, black birch and beech for firewood. Lovely!
Well it looks like the scout troop is in good hands and will have a warm place to retreat to. Good job.
This reminds me of my scouting days. Fun times. There was one cabin that we went to every year in the winter. It was alway nice to know there was going to be a stove. Winter tent camping is fun and all but the cabin with the stove was the next level
Scotty Overkill does that tipi camping complete with a fire in the middle of it....that’s really something to see in person!
Very nice. I'm looking forward to seeing that thing at WellSeasoned's gtg in June Sent from my SM-T280 using Tapatalk
