I guess it hit the national news and for good reason, just a few towns away a 10 year old girl was beaten to death after her Step-father and Mother had "punishment sessions" on her. She had to kneel on the floor, hands in the air as they beat her with a belt to her stomach and ribs. For those of you that know, I know first hands what that is like by my Grandfather, but thankfully just had a axe handle used on me, and it only broke my ribs.

Apparently neighbors, teachers, and everyone called the authorities, but they kept sending the little girl back to the home. Now it seems there are 2 other siblings and the mother is 7 months along with the 4th child. Thankfully our area Senator is Senate Majority Leader, has clout, is running for Governor and is demanding an investigation of the Maine Dept of Human Services as to why this happened. Everyone is sickened by it.

The Step-Father claims he has major mental illness, and the mother is claiming she was too scared to stand up to her husband.

Maybe it is because I have cancer and I am sick, maybe it is because I am tired, maybe I am just sick and tired of thugs beating up on kids, but this is wayyyyyyyy to close to home. Growing up in a foster home I can tell you atrocities that happened to kids over and over again, and I can tell you as a foster parent myself...one of my greatest achievements considering what it takes to be eligible to house abused children in your home today, but I really dislike child abusers.

How could a state agency go after a parent that spanks their child with gusto, yet allow a 10 year old to be beaten to death? All I can say is, I honestly hope I get picked to be on the jury.

As sickening as the family in California that had like 13 children and would chain them to beds and such. I can't even remember the entire sick twisted tale entirely.

I cannot for the life of me fathom how some people can do that to children.

LodgedTree I hate that you had to go through that as a child.
It had to have some severe negative consequences on you while growing up.

Unfortunately, it's stories such as these, and seeing the way that people treat animals that seriously affect my opinion on humankind as a whole.

We pollute, overpopulate, destroy nature without concern aside from profit, I could go on.. but I'm already feeling a bad mood coming on.

    Back to the pet thread..:tractor:

Like others I always hate reading stories like this, our oldest son will turn 10 this May. Could not imagine a child going through this.
    Very sad.

I was frustrated and venting. I did not mean to upset anyone.

Maybe this should be deleted as I don't want people getting in a foul mood.

    No.
It is a sobering account of American life, and sharing helps to illuminate/illustrate to the rest of us not only what some of members have gone thru, but what is also going on in our very own country.
You’re fine for having included this story here. I say leave it up LodgedTree :handshake:

    X2 ^^^

You worry about upsetting people, you didn't do this crap.. only brought it to our attention.

I work with guys that ask me why I listen to the news and politics if it pizzes me off.
I tell them quite frankly.. "It will affect my life in some way, ignoring it will not stop that."

I figure that the nature of abuse that goes on in the country will CERTAINLY not cease if no-one knows of it. It will only prosper in the shadows of ignorance.

Only by shedding light on the problem can a solution possibly be made.

I don't really trust that our politicians will come up with a viable and equitable solution to our problems, but that is what we have to deal with.

Feel free to vent when necessary.. it is needed at times.

That's what helps to keep people from "going over the edge"

(And there's always pet threads or video's that can lighten a persons mood. Or better yet, a walk with that pet at home. Helps to ground me.)

Oh no, not at all; I just know that these things upset people...as it should, kids and the elderly cannot defend themselves after all.

But I must admit I just unloaded on a teacher.

I teach an adult education class at our local high school, and the class room teacher during the day was whining about some spilled coffee on his desk. A long story short, I am 99% sure it was not us as we do not go anywhere near his desk, but I let him know it was not HIS classroom, but rather taxpayers, and considering everything schools and kids are enduring lately (that school was on lock down twice last week from threats), whining about a little spilled coffee pretty much meant he should "suck it up butter cup."

    What a whiner-sissy.

Complaining about a little spilled coffee when all he had to do was show a little humility, get a damp paper towel from the bathroom, and wipe it up. BIG DEAL! What a nice example he is teaching our kids (insert sarcasm here).

    Is integrity dying?

Don't let integrity die in yourself and you can be sure there will be one less S.O.B. on earth.

Truly heart breaking LodgedTree, my parents were also foster parents. I read some of the case files, made me nauseas.

I have never understood hurting smaller weaker persons or animals. In effect, a bullying mentality. That word gets used too often as does abuse.

As for state protecting children, IME, it does not stop Real Abuse situations but I will stop there..

    You and victims in prayers.

Truly one of the things I surly can't understand from God's word about loving others. Would have no problem fixing that man's problems with a bat, but who am I ? I sure hope I never witness somthing like this cause I will sin. Just saying......

Not entirely sure that integrity is dying, but I do understand the point you're making.

Adults too often think that kids are only learning from "what they're told", when in reality they are taught SO MUCH MORE by observing us and our behaviors.

That is a big part of why the slightest things are SOOOO upsetting to many older children/young adults today, because that's what they're seeing from many "adults".

There are still many issues today that DO need addressed, but it seems that most of the time is spent on making sure others "feel good". Life is gonna kick all of us in the chops on occasion, but since some people don't have any coping skills, they look to others to make it OK.

I've come to the conclusion that the word 'FAIR' is the worst word ever imposed on the human species.:headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang:

While not a fan of bully's, dealt with that just like pretty much everyone else growing up, but.. DEALT with it is part of the equation. I never dreamed of shooting up my school or classmates.

Like most everyone else, I don't have the answers, and not sure that it would make a difference if I did.

While frustrating to be sure, and not the best example for the children, I'm not quite sure this rises quite to "baseball bat" level.

    Just saying.

edit.. the post about the teacher at least I don't think rises quite to that level.
