Well finally able to get out back and skid some logs out. I cut these logs last fall with the intention of building a camp down at my woodlot. I know it's still February so I skidded the logs out by the road so I can take them over to the Amish neighbours and have them sawn up. I would of liked to skid more logs but some of the logs were frozen to the ground pretty good. Then things started to warm up by mid day and it got sloppy real fast. The camp I want to build will be in the 16x20 or 16x24 range. If anyone has any input glad to hear your ideas. I have a spot picked out overlooking a river. I have a little over 3,000ft of river frontage at my woodlot. A front porch is definitely figured into my plans 6x16. I will have full 8' walls and a 12/12 pitch roof
Sounds like a pretty neat project and a whole lot of work. Remember pics it would be neat to watch your progress.
Yes keep us posted on the progress, this is something I plan on doing some day on one of my wood lots.(but I don't have a river to build a camp next to, just a spot in the woods)
Looking forward to the pics as things progress. Only input I'd offer is that mosquito netting for the front porch might be worth it's weight in gold.
Usually have a pretty good west wind. The camp will be facing the west, so hopefully the mosquitoes won't be so bad. Plus I'll be set back and above the river
Getting some rain today and warming up this week, that's why I wanted to get some logs out. . At least I can run these over to the Amish sawmill just up the road
Good deal. I thought of it on account of seeing my first two mosquitos of 2018 the other day when we hit 70. I've got water all around me, most of it slow moving.. a large part of my summer diet is mosquitos.
Life's good, temperatures are in the high thirties, I skidded out and cut a few hitches. Beautiful day for a cold beer or six and some venison kielbasa. Got rid of a few brush piles, still a lot of frozen ground, but it is February, oh and I love that grapple and winch
