I had a shepard x that ran like that, like a deer. Wow she was fast! I recall looking into different gaits of hunting dogs, it was pretty interesting, maybe at some point it could indicate what other breeds he's made of.

Wished i had a picture. Max went swimming (40 degrees burrrr) and came back soaking wet. Neo was dry. He sat down with Max and started licking him dry.
    I think they'll be ok don't you?

My son got a new puppy. I should say his wife got a new puppy. She had been wanting another dog after having lost her dog last year. My son said he was in no hurry. Last week, he came home with a new truck. Very nice truck with all kinds of accessories. My daughter in-law went out Sat, (with the kids) to a pet rescue show. There she found a "puppy". How could my son say no after he had come home with a truck that she didn't give him a hard time over. She found a lab mix. the mix is Australian sheep herding dog. It is a male dog. They named him Moose. From what I can see he won't be a moose of a dog. But that is OK, it is what the kids wanted to name him. Puppies in Maine are hard to come by. The cost to this adoption service was $400. That will include the cost of him getting neutered. Real happy little fellow.

Lovely pup, i'm glad they got it from a rescue.
If you guys need puppies up there come down here they are killing them by the thousands. The problem is to have decent people to connect with up north who are not in the money making business but truly care for the animal's well being.
Lots of dogs are shipped up north from here but a lot of those wonderful rescues up north who help the southern dogs are not so wonderful. Unfortunately shipping isn't free unless someone is going and willing to take an animal. There are some transports but they only go certain routes. One was pretty nice but i don't know if they are still in business.
However don't buy from breeders in the south most of them are awful no matter how lovely their website and how convincing they are on the phone.

So anybody know any one who wants a dog or puppy their are some good rescues down here and lots of dogs and pups. I'll be glad to get you in touch.

If Neo doesn't work shadow (maxs) another option, we, Vermont, get a lot of rescue dogs up here from south..
Problem is they want for $500 to rescue a dog, a lot of my friends who would consider it. Think for that price they will go buy a puppy we're at least they know how it's been raised and what is genetics are. Sad really.

    Yes, Shadow would be good.
It's a very sad story. Some people started with good intentions but then greed took over and the poor furry kids pay a horrific price. Some of the money goes to worming, vaccination and spay/neuter and vets are at the top of the greedy list. You are looking at close to 200 there plus transport.
By the way genetics are way overrated, you find little horrors and absolute angels in every breed. I think far more depends on how you bring them up and what you expect of them.
I have rehabilitated mostly adult dogs but also bottle fed lots of abandoned little babies.
the first 3 are Andy who was found with his 5 siblings behind a grocery store in a box with the trash. His brother Angus in his new home, they were all well over 100 lbs.
The next 2 are the teddy bears as we called them thrown off a bridge in a box only 3 survived. Snow, one of the girls in her new home. These pups all still had their eyes closed, so small and helpless.
The last one is Zoe with her best new friend.

We may not know the pedigree but they are all wonderful dogs.

I agree Lucy by genetic I meant shepards with hip dysplasia and ACL problems with a lot of labs from interbreeding.

Might seem that way, but not. The pups come in and go to foster homes when they can find them. But others, older dogs come in and may be an issue. These folks don't work for free so there is a lot of overhead even with all the donations. They are open about the cost. No one there is living high. Thing is, once you donate, or adopt , these clinics will "hound" you forever for more donations or volunteer work. It is the only way they survive. I don't know of any shelters in the state that kill dogs unless they are high risk or have no hope of recovery from illnesses.

That price +/- is common for rescue dogs in Colorado.

I hope you are right and it may be because you don't have the overflow of dogs like we do. I don't blame the shelters for killing the problem doesn't lie with them it lies with society. No kill means for most shelters that they don't euthanize those dogs they can adopt out (in a certain time frame). Dogs that come in sick usually go on the list right away, if they are very shy or frightened they also don't stand much of a chance. A few rescues are different they take in sick animals, problem animals and old animals rehabilitate them even when it costs a lot.
The money the rescues charge for the dogs that come from the south is crazy because the vaccinations the worming and the spay/neuter (if older than 12 weeks has already been paid here. Very rarely do the rescues here get any money back.
Raising money for animals is very hard. Americans love to give but mostly if they can tell about it and all the small rescues are not known enough for that.
Sorry guys i could go on for ever.
