Does anyone raise rabbits for food? Dad and my old lady are looking at joining forces to start a delicious rabbit farm. Anything they should know about that won't necessarily be in the books?
GA, check out this article. http://www.motherearthnews.com/home...eding-rabbits-zmaz70mazglo.aspx#axzz2wYY17a7u I've had rabbits as pets and hunted plenty, but have not raised any for food. The market is there for upscale restaurants (especially New York/ LA) or so I hear.
They've already read that article, Dad is a subscriber to MEN. Weird acronym... That aren't looking to sell any, we plan to just eat them.
I grew up eating alot of "chicken" . Years later ....I found out it was rabbits !! I was so young..that I never noticed there were rabbits missing from the long rows in the barn . I personally like hunting them better.....I feel better that they have a sporting chance ! With me behind the gun......thew definetly have a good chance
We had some as a kid. I always helped dad butcher them and dad gave me a biology lesson as we did it. I can't offer any info that you already don't know other than moral support. It sounds like a great idea and my fiancé and I have talked about doing the same thing after we get hitched. It would be one step closer to self sustainability.
