Exibit B looks like one of the hybrid locust such as sunburst honey locust. Here is a link to Kentucky coffee tree: http://dendro.cnre.vt.edu/dendrology/images/Gymnocladus dioicus/bark1.jpg
Yeah that's one of them, and there's so many other pics of them with varying bark. I have a big honey locust in my yard and side by side the bark just isn't the same. The KC has those big wide plates, my honey locust has way narrower plates but the owner was absolutely convinced it was KC and claimed he researched it for many years...lol. I had a thread going on the other forum regarding this and the general consensus was all over the place.
Last pic sure looks like locust of some sort although if the grain pics belong to it it's a bit weird
I would also like to know for sure what this is. I was told when I got this tree it was white oak. But nothing about it (other than the bark maybe) seemed like oak to me. Mostly everything I split was buggy clear to the center. The biggest of the rounds were 30” across. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That does look vaguely like oak. There is a lot of water intrusion, that might be why the color is so dark. Pretty punky. Give it a cut on a saw. Quarter saw the log or a split....if it has spokes or metallic flecks in grain it's oak. Smell should be very distinct also, but that om is going to have a rotten smell too
